Buccaneers WR Mike Williams mentioned that talks between the two parties are “very close” to reaching an agreement on a contract extension that would prevent him from hitting the open market next year. “All I can say about it is that it’s very close,’’ said Williams on Wednesday, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. Williams, 26, is set to make $1.4-million for the upcoming season, which is the final year of his rookie contact. Stroud notes that Bucs GM Mark Dominik tends to structured contracts with little to no signing bonus and offsets this by high base salaries in the first two years of the new agreement, so Williams could be in line for a similar contract. Previous speculation indicated that Williams could be looking for a similar contract to that of Stevie Johnson who received a five-year deal worth $36.25 million that also included $18.05 million guaranteed.
