Mets Merized Online:
The New York Mets lost a close one as the San Francisco Giants beat them 2-1 today at Cit Field.
Jon Niese started for the Mets and held the Giants to just two runs in seven innings, but his mound opponent Madison Bumgarner outdueled him and limited the Amazins to just a run over his seven innings of work. Niese scattered seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Since returning from the disabled list last month, Niese is 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA.
The Mets’ lone run came on Daniel Murphy‘s RBI single in the fourth inning to score Josh Satin who had doubled ahead of him. That was it. The Mets struck out 12 times in the game, 10 of them against Bumgarner.

During an interview with the Dan Patrick Show, all Matt Harvey wanted to talk about was cell phone company Qualcomm. Here's the video and reactions from Twitter.
The New York Mets suffered a tough blow last night. Shortstop Ruben Tejada was diagnosed with a fractured right fibula. He had injured himself while getting tangled up with a teammate. Tejada will, of course, miss the rest of the season.
Right fibula broken for Tejada. Wow.

Matt Harvey will try to rehab his injured right elbow without reconstructive surgery, a move the young ace hopes is going to keep him on the mound for the New York Mets next season.
Tommy John surgery remains a possibility. Harvey will soon begin a strengthening and throwing program designed to last as long as six to eight weeks. If he feels pain or other symptoms that hinder his...
David Wright is back in the New York Mets lineup for the first time in more than a month and is already making an impact.
Wright was activated Friday from the disabled list before the Mets faced the Philadelphia Phillies and hit a two-run homer in the first inning in his first at-bat since he strained his right hamstring on Aug. 2 against the Kansas City Royals.
He was placed on...

As the season draws to a close, Met management may be flicking the occasional glance west toward Denver, home of a team with a similar won/lost record but with notably dissimilar team stats. While the Mets sit in the middle third of the league in both runs scored (10th) and pitching (8th), the Colorado Rockies present a study in contrasts sitting 3rd in the league in scoring but...
Mets ace Matt Harvey rejoined the Dan Patrick show this morning and apologized for yesterday’s awkward interview, when he talked about his Qualcomm promotion and that’s it.
He told Patrick that he had a lot on his mind and was on his way to the doctor during his call and was a bit flustered.
“That wasn’t me at all yesterday,” Harvey said. “I was thinking about it all...

New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey gave an incredibly uncomfortable injury to Dan Patrick on Wednesday. It was so bad I was literally cringing while listening to it in the same way I cringe when watching that scene in “Swingers” where Mike calls Nikki and leaves like eight straight messages. It was that painful. Harvey […]
SF Giants rookies Juan Perez, Nick Noonan, Roger Kieschnick, Johnny Monell, Ehire Adrianza, Mike Kickham, Jake Dunning and Heath Hembree dressed up (down?) like the Naked Cowboy and headed out to meet him. May be the best MLB hazing we've seen. Bravo. [LBS]

Following the bad break (literally speaking) that Ruben Tejada suffered in the ninth inning of Wednesday night’s comeback victory against the San Francisco Giants, Terry Collins said yesterday the organization will be calling up Wilfredo Tovar to take his place. The news was first reported by Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
The plan for the remainder of the season (which is now less...
The San Francisco Giants are in talks with outfielder Hunter Pence about an extension, as I wrote here. The talks are in the beginning stages and no deal is imminent. Even though no deal is close, all indications are that the Giants really want to lock up their free agent to be.

The Mets dropped a close one yesterday to close out the homestand against the Giants by the score of 2-1. Tonight they travel down 95 to the sandbox that is Citizen’s Bank Park (which I finally went to this year and it is as small as it looks on television, but the concourse is nice and open). Anyway, Daisuke Matsuzaka will face off against Cole Hamels.

Mets fans are generally an unhappy, anxious people. Which makes sense. They've been conditioned to feel that way, what with Steve Phillips, Ponzi schemes, and well, Matt Harvey's elbow.
For now, though, things seemed okay. Harvey, the lover of parties and owner of a 48-hour rule, was going to try and rehab his elbow, hoping to avoid surgery and a year on the shelf. Which...
