Does the defection of Brad Stevens to the Boston Celtics spell the end of Butler basketball being relevant? Well, maybe, but not right away. Stevens’ replacement, Brandon Miller has the opportunity to work with all the players Stevens recruited. At least for now.
You can’t blame Stevens for taking the big money and the bright lights of the NBA. Unfortunately for Butler, it happened so late in the cycle that they couldn’t find a suitable replacement. The coaching carousel is well done for this offseason. College basketball practice begins is less than three months. Therefore Brandon Miller has to be the guy to follow the lead of Thad Matta, Brad Stevens and that guy who was great at Butler but was gawd awful at Iowa.
So who is Brandon Miller?
Miller is a former Butler point guard and assistant coach who graduated in 2003. So he’s really young. You thought Brad Stevens was young for a coach at 36? Miller is 32.
Miller returned to Butler in April as an assistant coach after five year...

The 36-year-old Stevens has more than proven that he’s a great young basketball mind, but the fact that there hadn’t been any rumblings of this is why it was such a surprise. Stevens led Butler...

On leaving Butler and coming to Boston:
BS: It’s an honor and privilege to be here. I’m just in awe of this organization. It has such a high standard and places a value on culture.
The Boston Celtics? Like wow. That is an incredible feeling, an incredible honor...
Butler University didn’t take long — or look far — to find its new head basketball coach.
Three days after Brad Stevens shocked the basketball world and left the school to become the new head coach of the Boston Celtics, Butler decided to hire in the family, tabbing assistant coach Brandon Miller as its new head coach, according to Nicole Auerbach of USA Today.
After years of rampant speculation, Brad Stevens has made the jump. And it’s not the one you thought. The highly successful Butler University basketball coach has accepted the head coaching position with the Boston Celtics, the school and team announced. WALTHAM, Mass. – From the outside looking in, the shocking and unexpected announcement made Wednesday that Brad Stevens was bolting Butler University to become the new head coach of the Boston Celtics may have led some to believe that the decision — at least on the Celtics’ end — was made out of the blue and, perhaps, too quickly.
After all, when team president of basketball...
On Friday, now-former Butler head man Brad Stevens was officially introduced as the new Boston Celtics coach in a press conference.
WALTHAM, Mass. — When Danny Ainge first called Brad Stevens last Wednesday to gauge his interest in coaching the Celtics, Stevens ended the conversation by hanging up the phone, wide-eyed and in disbelief.
“Boston Celtics?” he said to his wife, Tracy. “Wow.”
By the time Ainge and several key members of the Celtics’ power structure met with Stevens a week later, it was...

I didn't post on the Stevens hire the other day because we already had numerous articles on it, but I feel like I need to chime in after his introduction.
Brad Stevens is going to be a phenomenal coach, one of the best in the NBA, and with one hire the outlook on the next ten years of Boston Celtics basketball has gotten infinitely brighter...
