Cardinals Stay The Course ~

Posted April 21, 2012

Yesterday's game proved a winner with pitcher Lynn as starter.  Lynn, filling in for the injured Chris Carpenter, is doing a very nice job. He allowed only four hits and one walk while striking out four. However one of the hits was an "inside-the-park" homer in the first during his seven inning stretch. But, that was the only run Pittsburgh had on the board.  Lynn goes 3-0 ~ moving up for relief pitcher last season to starter ~ not bad. Today-Westbrook will pitch for the Cardinals and Kevin Corriea for Pittsburgh.

Schumaker was brought back a bit early from his Memphis rehab assignment ~ strained right oblique ~ to fill-in for the injured CF John Jay. Jay injured his left shoulder after running into the center field wall during Thursday's game. Schumaker suffered the same demise "smacking" into the wall going for the ball, which he felt he should have caught ~ but with the abrupt stop made it difficult for him to breathe. Rattling the ol' rib cage with a strained oblique ~ probably not a very comfortable experience. Precautionary measures ~ he was pulled from the game. This was his first appearance after missing the first 13 games. Hopefully the damage is not too great ~ and he'll back on the permanent roster for the rest of the season.

All in all ~ the Cardinals are staying the course.  They have a strong "team" and have been playing as a unit with a purpose. Exciting to see.

Everyone ~ have a great day and enjoy your games.  Always ~ Elichap
