According to our Pat Gallen via Twitter, the Phillies have parted ways with RHP Carlos Zambrano. Zambrano threw just 35.1 IP for the Phillies in their minor league ranks before heading to the sidelines on June 28 with shoulder pain. Zambrano threw 19 innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he struck out 18 but also walked 10. The move likely indicates that the Phillies did not believe Zambrano would rehab quick enough to contribute at the Major League level in 2013.
BEST OF MAXIM
Carlos Zambrano's attempt at a Major League comeback has come to a close - at least with the Philadelphia Phillies. The team has released the veteran pitcher from his minor league deal. Zambrano has not pitched in the Majors since mid-2012.
Todd Zolecki of MLB.com says Zambrano was released after a solid minor league performance but a shoulder injury that caused concerns...
The Philadelphia Phillies have signed Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to a six-year contract worth $48 million.
Gonzalez, 26, had numerous teams show interest in him since he was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball.
Final details on Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez deal: six years, $48M guaranteed, with a vesting option for a seventh year at $11M.

On this day nine years ago, Phillies Nation was born.
I was living in Washington, DC (then a baseball wasteland) and had no quality Phillies news readily available. I decided to take it upon myself to start something I would enjoy reading. Thankfully, nine years later Phillies Nation is still my go-to source for news and analysis on the Phils.
Here is our first post:
The Philadelphia Phillies, who figure to be buyers, are getting hits on arguably their best pitcher. Teams are making offers for pitcher Cliff Lee, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. The teams interested in Lee are unknown.
It isn't likely that a deal happens. Phillies GM Ruben Amaro is not giving up hope on the season and plans on getting talent, rather than selling...
In a stunning turn of events, the Philadelphia Phillies have signed coveted Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to a six-year deal worth upwards of 50 million dollars, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.
Here is Passan with the details:
Cuban RHP Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez and Philadelphia Phillies have agreed on six-year deal worth more than $50M, club source tells...
Multiple teams are making a late run at the Philadelphia Phillies with offers for pitcher Cliff Lee as Wednesday's trade deadline nears baseball sources told ESPN.com Friday.
Although Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. declined to address the extent of other teams' interest in Lee he said he's keeping an open mind on Lee and numerous other Philadelphia players...
In their 4th consecutive loss on Wednesday night, I do believe the Phillies finally rolled over and died. They did not just lose 4 games, they were slaughtered in the ugliest and most painful manner possible.
Every problem this team has had this season was glaring in last night’s 3-11 drubbing, courtesy of the Cardinals. It was a proverbial highlight reel of all that is wrong with...
Remember how we said the Philadelphia Phillies' games against St. Louis and Detroit this week should determine their approach to the trade deadline?
Well, the Phillies are 0-4 on the road trip. They have lost six straight overall. They are nine games out in the National League East, 10 back in the second wild card.
Logic says the Phillies should reboot an aging roster by trading...
According to Todd Zolecki of Phillies.com Cliff Lee has been scratched for Saturday night's start with a stiff neck. Raul Valdes will get a start. Fun times.
Michael Martinez is in, and Domonic Brown is out. That, my friends, is the formula for winning. Mix in John Lannan and this Phillies bullpen, and the team is guaranteed success. Tonight's scenario was set up exactly like this, as Philly looked to avenge last night's 4-1 loss to the...

Bad news for the Phillies as Domonic Brown is out of the lineup with concussion-like symptoms. According to Todd Zolecki, Brown is being tested...
Last night's game was a lot of fun. Looks like we will have more of that. The Phillies placed outfielder Domonic Brown on the disabled list, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer's Matt Gelb. Brown is headed to the newer seven-day disabled list for concussions. Steve Susdorf will get his first opportunity...
People can say what they want about Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn.
Too slow. Too emotional. Too many pitches. And sometimes they’ve been right.
But the fact remains that only one National League pitcher his teammate Adam Wainwright has more than the 12 victories credited to Lynn. And Wainwright has just one more.
“Hopefully I can catch him” said Lynn.
After an inauspicious...
