A few quick news and notes on the Cavaliers as the NBA Draft inches ever so close: 1. From the sounds of things, Jabari Parker did himself no favors during his workout with the Cavs on Friday. The forward from Duke wasn't bad, he just didn't look as good as Andrew Wiggins, sources said. 2. One source said Wiggins' workout was "easily" better -- that Wiggins shot better, moved better and handled the ball better than he ever did at Kansas. A week ago, Parker seemed to have the edge when it came to Cavs and their No. 1 overall pick. Now, it's as big of a mystery as ever. 3. As for Wiggins, the Cavs' questions remain the same: Will he raise his game in the NBA? Will he play aggressively? Will he play consistently? Is he strong enough to make an quick impact? All are fair questions. 4. One thing that does seem to be for certain: The Cavs will not select Kansas center Joel Embiid. But those around the league believe it's hard to envision him dropping past the 76ers at No. 3. Despite the injuries, Embiid is no bigger a mystery than Australian guard Dante Exum -- and at least Embiid is 7-foot. 5. Word is out that the Cavs are more than willing to sign two players to maximum contracts (along with Kyrie Irving) when free agency hits in July. The idea is to spend big for the right guys and win now. 6. Reports of a trade that would send Cavs guard Jarrett Jack to the Nets for guard Marcus Thornton are inaccurate, league sources said. But Jack has indeed come up in a discussion or two with other teams. 7. The Cavs are looking at a couple of potential major moves, and one source said to discount nothing, including the possibility of the No. 1 pick being involved. Details were not provided. 8. Along with all that, the Cavs are talking to several bigger names to gauge their interest in being the top assistants to new head coach David Blatt. As reported last week, former Clippers and Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro is potentially among those names. 9. Interestingly, the Cavs also feel that the hiring of Blatt will increase interest among European players who can sign with NBA teams as free agents. 10. The Cavs most certainly are monitoring the Carmelo Anthony situation with the Knicks. Anthony is opting out of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent, according to multiple reports. But with the Cavs' attention on the draft and other free agents, pursuing Anthony (in a sign-and-trade or otherwise) is not yet a priority.
