Credit the Cleveland Cavaliers for executing the ultimate misinformation strategy in the days leading up to the NBA Draft.
Nobody saw the Anthony Bennett pick coming. Not even the guy who made this slow motion highlight video that has Bennett looking like something of a superhero.
The guy I picked for the Cavaliers, Otto Porter, ended up going No. 3 to the Washington Wizards. Alex Len, the player I thought the Cavs were going to take, ended up going two picks later to the Phoenix Suns.
Nerlens Noel, meanwhile, was selected at No. 6 before being dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers for Jrue Holdiay (!!!).
In Anthony Bennett, the Cavaliers have a dynamic forward who can score the ball in multiple ways. Some people have compared Bennett to Larry Johnson but that's primarily based him attending the same school and playing the same position.
If he can become Grandmama 2.0, however, well...that would be fantastic.
BEST OF MAXIM
With the NBA Draft tomorrow night, many rumors and reports are circulating, and none more so than who the Cleveland Cavaliers will select #1 overall. While many believe Nerlens Noel to be the top player available, concerns over his injured knee and raw offensive game, have teams like the Cavs looking elsewhere. While they may try to move out of the top spot, the plan is to pick Alex...
Hope you were sitting down for that one.

— Dan Gilbert (@cavsdan) June 27, 2013
Well, this tweet should clear up any questions about who the Cleveland Cavaliers will be taking with the #1 overall pick. It’s good to see that Gilbert isn’t letting any pressure get to him and is...
Anthony Bennett has been officially introduced by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected the UNLV power forward with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's NBA draft.
Although he wasn't regarded by many draft experts as the best player available, Bennett was always at the top of Cleveland's board. The Cavs listened to several trade offers before finalizing their decision...
The Cleveland Cavalier have reportedly offered the first-overall draft pick to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD reports that the Cavs have offered the top pick in the 2013 NBA Draft for New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez, the No. 6 overall pick and a 2014 first-round pick. As Kennedy states, the 2014 NBA Draft is widely considered to be substantially better...
If Cleveland Cavaliers’ head coach Mike Brown was also serving as general manager, it appears that UNLV forward Anthony Bennett would be his selection with the first-overall pick in the impending 2013 NBA Draft.
ESPN’s Chad Ford, in a theory-based piece regarding the Cavs and the No. 1 pick, says that Brown is a big fan of the offensively gifted athlete from the Running Rebels...
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have selected Russian guard Sergey Karasev with the No. 19 overall pick in the NBA draft.
The Cavs had been targeting Karasev for some time and thought they might have to trade up to get the 19-year-old, who played on the Russian Olympic team last summer at the London Games. A left-handed shooter, the 6-foot-8 Karasev averaged 18...
The Cleveland Cavaliers shocked much of the NBA world by passing on the likes of Nerlens Noel for UNLV freshman Anthony Bennett with the first overall pick. Bennett, who had a very nice run during his year in Las Vegas was projected to be a top 10 pick by many draft experts however no one [...]
In terms of the greatest reactions in NBA Draft history to an overall number one pick, ESPN’s Bill Simmons had one vocal one as the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Anthony Bennett.
Watch as Bill drops a Keanu Reeves as the pick is announcer by NBA commish David Stern:
Cavaliers pick Anthony Bennett [The Big Lead]
Nerlens Noel was long considered a probable first overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but instead fell all the way to the New Orleans Pelicans' at No. 6. The Pelicans will trade the draft rights to Noel to the Philadelphia 76ers.
The difference in the rookie salary scale between being the first overall pick and the sixth is immense.
Anthony Bennett will earn $4,436,900 in...
Grantland.com Editor in Chief and ESPN NBA analyst Bill Simmons provided one of the better reaction shots of the 2013 NBA Draft, doing so just a few minutes into the broadcast when UNLV’s Anthony Bennett’s name was called as the Cavalier’s first-overall pick.
The ESPN panel all had a different player for the Cavs to select, but none of them had Bennett going No. 1.
Below are my final predicitions for who I believe the Cleveland Cavaliers will select in the 2013 NBA Draft. Be sure to read these now because as soon as the draft ends I will edit accordingly.
These picks are assuming there is no trade and the Cavs actually make a selection at No. 1, No. 19, No. 31 and No. 33.
No. 1: Alex Len

With the surprise pick of Anthony Bennett at #1 and the selections of Sergey Karasev at 19 and Carrick Felix at 33, it was quite a memorable night for Cavaliers fans. Andrew and I got together this morning and discussed last night’s events in the only way the two of us know how, in long form. So, without further ado, here is our NBA Draft fallout conversation.
Kirk: So, Andrew...
