Lady At The Bat:
Maybe this is just who CC Sabathia is now. A pitcher with a low 90s fastball, good for quality starts (6 IP, 3 ERs) with a smattering of gems and stinkers thrown in. After another off game, this time giving up 7 ER, it's beginning to look like that's the case. Sabathia's ERA is above 4.00 and steadily rising, and his fastball average is barely above 90 mph and he has shown a Phil Hughes-like inability to put away hitters with two strikes. There has been ample speculation about the causes for Sabathia's struggles. Early in the season, it was the fact that he was working his way back from surgery and his velocity would come back. Then everyone, from Girardi to Cashman to Sabathia himself acknowledged that his velocity might never come back but that he would learn to work with it. On the Sunday night telecast on ESPN, John Kruk even speculated that it might be due to Sabathia's noticeable weight loss. Whatever the reason, it's...

C.C. Sabathia said it so somebody else didn't have to.
" I suck. "
Well, there was more to it than that. The Yankees pitcher on Sunday gave up seven runs on nine hits in five innings in an 8-7, 11-inning loss to the Boston Red Sox. Afterward, according to the New York Daily News , he just let it all out.
"I wish I had an excuse or something," Sabathia lamented...
Last night’s 7-8, 11th inning loss to the Boston Red Sox might have been the icing on the cake.

Clearly it time is up for the New York Yankees, as holding down the fort is no longer a practical game plan.
The Yankees losing two of three games up in Fenway Park to start the second-half of the season is not what needed to happen.
It’s an open secret that the New York Yankees don’t want third baseman Alex Rodriguez, back in the lineup, not with the impending suspensions that are supposedly coming from Major League Baseball, so this is an injury they may welcome.
Rodriguez, who was expected to return to the team on Monday, after missing the first four months of the season due to a hip injury, injured...
The Yankees will try to get back on the winning track tonight against Texas in their 100th game of the regular season. Phil Hughes takes the mound against Alexi Ogando, who is fresh off the disabled list. New York was unable to muster anything last night against Yu Darvish, coming away with three hits en route to a shutout loss. Travis Hafner has been benched tonight, even against...
From Jon Heyman:Alex Rodriguez, who once appeared on his way to breaking baseball's all-time home run record, is all but assured of a Biogenesis-related MLB ban being levied against him -- quite possibly more than the usual 50 games for first-time offenders -- people familiar with the case say.
Rodriguez is expected to be one of up to 15 or so players to receive suspensions...
Alex Rodriguez is believed to have recovered from the hip injury that has haunted him for over a year. Now, it is a quad injury that has been ailing A-Rod. On Sunday, Rodriguez went for an MRI and the New York Yankees announced that he is expected to miss another 7-10 days with a Grade [...]
It would be a shock at this point if New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez was not suspended for his alleged involvement with Tony Bosch’s Biogenesis clinic. The suspension is expected to come sometime within the next few weeks, but MLB fans are still wondering how strong of a statement Bud Selig is looking to [...]
Phil Hughes ( 4-8, 4.57 ERA) takes the ball in game two in Arlington against Alexi Ogando (4-2, 2.93 ERA). Hughes had a start of mixed results in his last outing, striking out a season high 10 batters but also allowing three homers in a loss to the Twins. He took a tough luck loss the last time he faced Texas on June 27, allowing two runs in eight innings. The right hander has a...

It has to say something about an athlete, or maybe more so a sport, that even when he is not playing he remains the story.
Alex Rodriguez has not played a single major league game this season and yet he is in more headlines then anyone. Rodriguez made headlines with his conditioning program, his tweet that he was cleared, and the...

According to a report via George A. King III of the New York Post, the New York Yankees are close to reacquiring a former player in outfielder Alfonso Soriano, to help infuse a surge of power in their lineup.
According to a person familiar with the talks, the Cubs will pay the bulk of what is left on Soriano’s contract. He makes $18 million this year and the same for next season...
Saturday afternoon Yankees closer Mariano Rivera made his way to the mound. It was time for the Sandman to record career save number 639, number 57 against the Red Sox, and number 35 at Fenway Park.
The 37,601 Fenway Faithful noticed and rose to give MLB's all-time saves leader a standing ovation.
Red Sox fans may not love you Mo, but they do...
The Yankees/Red Sox rivalry helped FOX to a season-high in overnights over the weekend. In other news, WNBA viewership has increased by more than a third on ESPN2 and NBA TV, and golf’s American Century [...]
