Found August 10, 2014 on Sports Mockery:
The Cubs have announced that Jacob Turner, who was acquired earlier this week, will be added to the 25 man roster before today’s finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. Turner will report the bullpen to be under the tutelage of Lester Strode and Chris Bosio. Turner will wear #38 for his duration with the Cubs. Turner, on the year has a 4-7 record, with a 4.26 ERA, and a 6.2 k/9 rate. The Cubs are hoping that he’ll turn around like Jake Arrieta did last year. The Cubs unly gave up two low-level prospects for Turner, who had overstayed his welcome in Miami. Turner was a top prospect in the Tigers organization, and was traded several years ago as a package for Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez. The Cubs have also activated reliever, Neil Ramirez from the 15 day disabled list. Ramirez, who was sent to the Cubs via the Matt Garza trade last July, has been a valuable bullpen arm, and has established himself as the set-up man. On rare occasions, he has filled in as the closer. He has 36 strikeouts to just 10 walks, and has appeared in 33 games so far this year. His 2.78 FIP ranks as one of the best in the league, and the Cubs bullpen should be happy to see his return. In corresponding moves, the Cubs have optioned southpaw, Chris Rusin back to AAA Iowa. Rusin didn’t see much use in his brief stint with the major league level, appearing in only 4 games. The Cubs have also place reliever, Brian Schlitter on the DL for shoulder soreness as a precaution. In 53 games, Schlitter accrued  a 3.57 ERA, a 3.68 FIP, and a 2-3 W/L record. 92 total views, 92 views today The post Chicago Cubs Activate Two Pitchers To The 25 Man Roster appeared first on ✶ Sports Mockery ✶ Chicago Breaking Sports.

Video: Cubs fan catches home run with spectacular grab, throws back different ball

Cubs fan Ken Keefer has made a name for himself by catching home run balls in the Wrigley Field bleachers and throwing back decoys, but PBA Senior Tour (now the PBA50) champion Mike Pullin did a pretty good job of it himself in Monday's Brewers-Cubs game. When Mark Reynolds blasted a home run to left-center, the 65-year-old Pullin stood up in the last row of the bleachers...

Cubs add former Marlins pitcher Turner to roster

The Chicago Cubs have added newly acquired pitcher Jacob Turner to their roster and activated reliever Neil Ramirez from the 15-day disabled list. The Cubs got Turner from Miami on Friday in a trade for two minor league pitchers. The 23-year-old Turner was designated for assignment by the Marlins last week. Turner is 4-7 with a 5.97 ERA in 20 games this season, and manager Rick...

Chicago Cubs: Hendricks, Alcantara and Baez Impressive So Far

As the Cubs continue to bring the “future” of the organization to 1060 W. Addison, the organization has begun to see some promise in quite a few of the prospects.  The Cubs are almost certainly destined to lose 90 games, but if a few more prospects pan out, those days may soon be over. As we near the September call-ups,  we can expect to hear even more hype coming from Iowa...

DFP: Jacob Turner

In case you missed it, the Cubs acquired RHP Jacob Turner last week for two non-prospects. Turner’s stock has really fallen off since 2012, when his name was being tossed around as a potential centerpiece from the Tigers in a Matt Garza trade and was eventually a big part of the trade that brought Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante to the team. For three years between 2010 and 2012...

Did You See The New Addition To Wrigley Field?

The Chicago Cubs plan to completely remodel Wrigley Field very soon and the small changes have already started. The Cubs have mowed in their logo in center field which has never been done before. Whether it remains or not is yet to be seen, but it’s a very small step toward modernized a 100 year old stadium. That's new pic.twitter.com/SnatZiAiFv — Jesse Rogers (@ESPNChiCubs...

Cubs Injury Update: Neil Ramirez activated

The Chicago Cubs continued to struggle offensively, being shut out by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday by the score of 4-0. The loss dropped the Cubs to 49-66, last in the National League Central. There hasn't been much to cheer about for Cubs' fans, but there is some good news on the injury front. Rookie relief pitcher Neil Ramirez, who has impressed in 33 games this season...

Cubs Injury Update: Brian Schlitter to DL

The Chicago Cubs have placed right-handed reliever Brian Schlitter on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation says MLB.com's Carrie Muskat. To fill in his roster spot, the Cubs have activated newly-acquired Jacob Turner after acquiring him in a waiver trade with the Miami Marlins.#Cubs place RHP Brian Schlitter on DL with right shoulder inflammation— Carrie...

Cubs fan Mike Pullin makes awesome catch, fakes everyone out (Video)

Sixty-five-year-old Chicago Cubs fan Mike Pullin of Rochelle, Ill., made an incredible catch at Wrigley Field Monday night — and then he pulled the old switcheroo. Pullin sat in the last row of the left field bleachers armed with a baseball glove. The Milwaukee Brewers’ Mark Reynolds hit his 20th homer of the season off a pitch from the Cubs’ Jake Arrieta in the second inning.

Is Comcast SportsNet Disrespecting Cubs Greats?

Javier Baez has been on a tear since being called up. On Thursday, August 7th, he hit his 2nd and 3rd career home runs. He currently is batting .261, so all the praise he is receiving is somewhat warranted. Baez is adding a spark on the North Side which is somewhat simmering the need for football season in the city. Baez is giving Cubs fans hope that next year might actually be that...

Cubs Prospects and Their Wrigley Debuts

In years past, rookies have enjoyed success on the road when debuting for the Cubs, but when it comes time to step in the box at The Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field, they have not fared well. Is it the pressure brought upon them when they are in front of their home crowd? Rookies in the Cubs system should not be scared of playing at Wrigley Field because wherever they play, there...

The Cubs and the hunt for pitching

By now you know that the Chicago Cubs are in search of pitching to augment their position-player prospect base. The Cubs could fill out a starting eight of prospects -- and then some -- but finding a five-man rotation to help them compete in the coming years is still a work in progress. Any fan knows this by now, and when the Cubs traded Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel earlier...

Cubs avoid sweep with 3-2 victory over Rays

CHICAGO (AP) Anthony Rizzo hit a game-ending RBI single in the 12th inning, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep. The last-place Cubs struck out 17 times, running their total to 44 for the weekend series, but Rizzo and touted rookie Javier Baez had two hits apiece to key a 13-hit attack. Carlos Villanueva (5-6) pitched a scoreless...

Illini QB Aaron Bailey really needs to convert to WR or DB

The talk from Illini Nation around QB Aaron Bailey reminds me of the talk from Chicago Cubs Nation surrounding Javier Baez. Or Albert Almora. Or (insert another Cubs blue chip Minor League prospect’s name here). It’s the same sentiment- accepting that losing, and really bad losing at that, is inevitable in the present. Therefore, instead look to the future and focus on the can’t...
