PLAYERS: Chipper Jones
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
Chipper Jones is starting for the Braves against the Brewers after missing two games with swelling in his surgically repaired left knee. Jones is back at third base and hitting third for the Braves in Sunday's game. He had arthroscopic surgery on March 26 to repair a torn meniscus in the knee and missed the first four games of the season. He had the knee drained before the Braves' home opener on Friday night. He said there was still some swelling on Saturday. Jones homered in his first game back on Tuesday night in Houston and added two hits on Wednesday night. He says it was not a big surprise he had swelling in the knee after the flight back to Atlanta.

As usual, Braves trying to keep up with Jones

The Chipper Jones legend grows. Not that those who've been watching him for 19 years were surprised that he stroked a single up the middle in his first at-bat and a two-run homer in his second. Actually, the best sight was his barehanded grab and throw across the diamond on the very first play of the game, when former teammate Jordan Schafer did what he was supposed to do and...

Honor Chipper Jones? How about with a gift certificate to Hooters?

Sorry, Mets fans, for jinxing your team. (Well, not really, but I have to be nice!) Squawker Jon is right -- I am the Citi Field jinx! But when it comes to making dopey moves, your team doesn't need any help. Like the reported notion for the Mets planning to somehow honor Chipper (Larry) Jones in his last season. Why would you give a moment's tribute to somebody who mocked...

Braves back on track with sweep of Brewers

Do you remember those four straight losses to begin the season? I didn't think so. The Braves don't either. Five wins in a row are a great way of making folks forget the past, more handy than those little strobe lights they used in the "Men in Black" flicks. That dismal start is long gone and everything is clicking for the Braves, who used every part of their...

The Pros and Cons of #MetsTwitter

When something happens in the world of sports, there’s really only one place to go for details anymore: Twitter. Thanks to Twitter, I find it hard these days to watch a sporting event without my computer, tablet or iPhone handy. Twitter has become integrated into the game experience in many ways, most of them voluntary. As a Mets fan, I spend most of each game in an alternate universe...
