COLUMBUS- The Columbus Clippers just can’t seem to catch a break these days.   After trailing 5-0 early in the game, the Clippers battled back to take a 8-5 lead but could not hold on to it as they collapsed against the Indianapolis Indians 10-9 in extra innings Saturday.   The Indians picked off right where they left off Friday, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning and another in the second off of starter Carlos Carrasco.   After retiring the first batter of the game, Carrasco walked former Cleveland Indian infielder John McDonald. Designated hitter Chris d’Arnaud followed by smacking a sharp grounder down the third base line for a double. First baseman Matt Hague was then hit in the back to load the bases. Center fielder Felix Pie continued with his fifth hit of the series, this time a bases clearing triple in the gap between right and center field. The relay throw from second baseman Cord Phelps to catcher Omir Santos was off the mark, allowing Pie to scor...

Mason Radeke (Lake County, SP) – W (1-0), 5 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 7 K – In his first competitive mound appearance of the 2013 season, Radeke was flat-out dominant.  Only four days after his reprieve from the purgatory of Extended Spring Training, Mason imposed his will on the Dayton Dragons lineup.  If he can keep up this kind of pitching, he will be one to keep an eye on regarding...

WFNY Stats & Info: Jason Giambi’s slugging tear

Last weekend, I wrote a tongue-in-cheek WFNY Stats & Info post about a prop bet (h/t @neatgibson): What would be more, Jason Giambi’s home runs or Cleveland Browns wins? Well, ever since, Giambi has been on an absolute tear for the Indians. He tied Tuesday afternoon’s game against Cincinnati with a eighth-inning home run. He was the star of Thursday evening’s game against...

Second Thoughts: Game #54: Rays 9, Indians 2

Not Much To Say Pretty much all anyone on either side can say about this game is ‘glad it’s over’. After three rain delays totaling nearly five hours, anything pretty much could’ve gone right or wrong for either team. Unfortunately, the Indians came up on the short end of the stick as the team’s left-handed relief surrendered eight of the nine runs to the Rays. While a...
