The Columbus Blue Jackets will be without winger Matt Calvert for an “extended” amount of time because of abdominal surgery according to the Columbus Dispatch’s Aaron Portzline. The team will reportedly have a better idea about the 23-year-old’s window of recovery once surgery is completed on Tuesday but they placed him on the injured reserve anyway.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Can Sean Collins replace Matt Calvert?

Tuesday the Columbus Blue Jackets (2-2-0) announced that Matt Calvert would be placed on the temporary disabled list for approximately six weeks after a surgery he had Tuesday to fix an abdominal injury. Calvert is a strong left wing and was a 5th round draft pick in 2008. He has been scoreless in the three games he has played in this year, but has managed 20 career goals and 19...

Nathan Horton Basically Blames Bruins For Leaving

Before the Bruins put away the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-1 yesterday, Nathan Horton broke his silence on why he left Boston for the mean streets of the CBJ. To no one's surprise, Horton basically blamed it on the Bruins management and the city of Boston.  If you think I'm taking that to an extreme check out this quote he gave Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: ...

Out indefinitely, Columbus’ Matt Calvert to undergo abdominal surgery

According to the Columbus Dispatch’s Aaron Portzline, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be without their young winger Matt Calvert for what is termed as an ‘extended’ period of time due to his abdominal surgery. Once the surgery has been competed, which is set for today, the team said it will have a better idea of how long the recovery for their 23 year old player will last...

Wings Meets Blue Jackets For The First Time As Eastern Conference ‘Rivals’

Heck, doesn't every game this season have the word 'rivals' in it when hyping the matchup? Paul here using Bill's account so he receives the comment notifications and not me.  He is without computer access at this moment and asked me to put up the live blog for him. It feels like old times, playing the Blue Jackets once again, but this time with both teams in...

Red Wings-Blue Jackets game-day updates: Gustavsson starts vs. disturbingly dominant Blue Jackets

The Red Wings host an annoyingly dominant-over-Detroit opponent tonight in the Columbus Blue Jackets (8 PM, FSD/FS Ohio/97.1 FM), with the Wings hoping to build upon yesterday's 3-2 win over Boston, and in case you've forgotten about the late start... Just another friendly reminder that the #RedWings vs. #BlueJackets game has been bumped to 8 p.m. tonight. #GoTigers...

Blue Jackets vs Red Wings Recap: 10.15.13

Wings certainly looked like they were on the tail-end of 3 in 4, but pulled off a 2-1 win over the Blue Jackets thanks mostly to the solid goaltending of… Jonas Gustavsson. He was awesome tonight, though I never really felt comfortable with him in net. Unconventional and gave up lots of rebounds, but they were harmless tonight and that’s what matters. More after the jump...

Nathan Horton discusses leaving Boston

Photo by: Justin K. Aller/ Getty Images When the Boston Bruins decided to let right-winger Nathan Horton play the free-agent market, admittedly, I was a little torn up. Here was a guy to whom I had become emotionally attached. Forever in my mind will be the image of Nathan Horton, after getting blown-the-****-up by Aaron Rome in Game three against Vancouver, pouring water from the...

Forward Ranks Thinned

The Blue Jackets returned to practice today but four players -- all forwards -- were missing. First the good news. Left wing Nick Foligno was right where he needed to be with wife Jannelle for the birth of their first child. Malina Maria Foligno - all 7 pounds 0 ounces -- was born on Sunday. Now the not-so-good. Right wing Marian Gaborik the Blue Jackets' leading scorer was...
