The family of a Dallas Cowboys practice squad player killed in a drunken-driving crash is suing the nightclub that served him and the car's driver.
Jerry Brown's family filed suit last week in a Dallas County court against Beamers Private Club of Dallas. The suit alleges the club served "large sums of alcohol" to Josh Brent, the former Cowboys player driving in December when his car crashed.
Police in the Dallas suburb of Irving say Brent was driving with a blood-alcohol level at twice the legal limit.
The lawsuit alleges Beamers Private is liable under Texas' "dram shop" law and seeks wrongful death and other damages.
The club has previously said it "promotes responsible drinking."
Brent faces a January trial on intoxication manslaughter and manslaughter charges.

Former NFL running back Tony Dorsett told Wolf Blitzer of CNN that he’s going to beat CTE after recently being diagnosed with the disease. Dorsett was also asked if he would play football knowing what he knows now. He replied by saying that he would have still played. As tragic as CTE is, it’s interesting to hear a lot of players say the same thing as Dorsett. Need...
If the 2013 Dallas Cowboys go anywhere this season - such as hosting a playoff game in Arlington because they won the NFC East - I believe we will spend a lot of time praising the fantastic job of the defensive line who is in their first year in the 4-3 scheme under Monte Kiffin and Rod Marinelli. Those of us on the outside talked the entire off-season about the change with strategy...
There is no timetable for when Miles Austin will return to the field. The Dallas Cowboys shut down Austin weeks ago in order to get his hamstring back to 100 percent.
For now Terrance Williams will continue to play opposite of Dez Bryant while Cole Beasley also sees regular playing time.
No Nick Hayden or Miles Austin today.

Last January, Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan was relieved of his duties with the Dallas Cowboys. Jason Garrett, according to ESPN Dallas, had this to say about the move:
“Some of those logistics of those decisions can be challenging sometimes because of the timing of them and where everybody is. One of things we try to do is everybody understands the nature of the business...
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant did not practice on Wednesday. His back was tight.
In the locker room after practice, Bryant said there was no doubt that he would play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. The rest of the organization has that feeling, too. The day off was just a precaution.
But what about the future?
Bryant turned 25 on Monday. A 25-year-old with back...
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant participated on a limited basis in practice on Thursday while continuing to vow to play Sunday night in New Orleans. Fox Sports Southwest is reporting that the Cowboys standout wide receiver is suffering from a bulging or herniated disc in his back and that measures being taken to treat […]
Rob Ryan was on the beaches at Turks & Caicos when he got the call he was no longer the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys last January.
Two weeks after the season ended, the assistant coaches were on vacation when Jason Garrett made the call to Ryan once the head coach was able to confer with owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
“Some of those logistics of those...
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant sat out of practice Wednesday and was limited in Thursday’s session with a back issue. That issue may be more serious than it was originally perceived.
The Cowboys claim that Bryant’s limited participation in practice this week was precautionary. However, Fox Sports Southwest reports Bryant may be suffering from a bulging or herniated disc...
Somehow, “I Hate Myself for Loving You” became “I’ve Been Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.” Sigh.
Hard to believe that football returned to NBC seven years ago as NBC Sunday Night Football. The Dallas Cowboys played in the second regular season game on this program, beating the Washington Redskins 27-10 on September 17, 2006.
The Cowboys will appear on Sunday Night Football...
Dez Bryant’s passion for the game has been evident both on-field and on the sidelines in the last few weeks. The Dallas Cowboys receiver recently opened up to Flaunt magazine, for an interview that tackles this topic among others. Within the piece, he discusses subjects ranging from his upbringing to his harsh critics.
On his NFL Draft day:
“The whole draft process, it was crazy...
When word surfaced that Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin was allegedly forced to pay $15,000 for a team trip to Las Vegas, one person who likely felt no sympathy for the former Stanford star is Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant. During his rookie season, Bryant supposedly had to treat his veteran teammates to […]
Things you can count on in life: the sun rising and setting, death, taxes, SportsCenter running 15 times a day, AND... the Cowboys signing a defensive lineman on a weekly basis in 2013.
The Boys have signed DT Everett Dawkins, a rookie out of Florida State, who has spent most of this season on the Vikings practice squad.
Dawkins was the 229th overall pick in last...
News courtesy of ESPN Dallas:
Sunday night’s game is sure to be a showdown. Needless to say the ball will see lots of airtime with Tony Romo and Drew Brees behind every snap. Sean Payton is even giving Tony Romo props for having such a spectacular season so far.
"He's having, I think, the best year of his career this season right now," says the Saints...
This week I caught up with Joe Rodriguez of CowboysBlog.Net to talk about the Sunday night game in the Superdome. Many thanks to him for sharing some knowledge, and please check him out on twitter for all things Cowboys. We discuss Tony Romo's reputation, Rob Ryan facing off against his old team, how big the return of DeMarcus Ware is and why the Cowboys' defense is so bad...
Season To Date: 18 – 9 Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints- The Saints will be in a foul mood after losing to the Jets last week. This is the type of game (quality opponent and on the road) where the Cowboys inability to run the ball really hurts them. Rob Ryan will have extra motivation to limit the one-dimensional Dallas offense. Saints 38 – Cowboys 23....
