Luis Cruz will be the 17th player placed on the DL this season by the Yankees. The team announced that Cruz, who tweaked his knee in Monday’s game against Texas on a sliding catch, will head back to New York for an MRI. Infielder David Adams has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton. Cruz, 29, was signed earlier in the month after he was released by the Dodgers. In 16 games with the Yankees, he’s hitting .182/.224/.200 with no homers and 5 RBI. David Adams was first called up back in May and saw regular time at third base. He got off on the right foot, hitting .300 with two homers and 5 RBI over his first 10 games. From that point on, he hit .132 with no homers and 4 RBI and 26 strikeouts in 76 at-bats and was sent down at the beginning of July Adams seems to have found his stroke in the minors. In his last 10 games with the RailRiders, he’s 11 for 34 (.324) with 3 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI, 7 BB, 5K. With little offensive threats in the lineup, especially from right-handers, the Yankees hope Adams can continue his success at the plate.
