California shows progress in its rugged 31-17 win at Washington State, demonstrating the Golden Bears are more than ready to reclaim the Axe from Stanford.
GIVEN WASHINGTON STATE’S offensive woes, there arguably was no bigger factor for the Cougars than stopping California’s formidable running game. But WSU had no solution for the Golden Bears’ trio of talented running backs during Saturday’s 31-17 loss at Martin Stadium.
PULLMAN -- The Cougars came out Sunday night fired up and ready compete on every level. Whether it was individual drills, non-contact scrimmage, or dodgeball -- yes, dodgeball -- the team was out to win. A new face also entered the receiving corps, while another pass-catcher was absent from practice. Furthermore, the quarterback competition is back, and this time it may stick for a while.
California is out to claim its first road win of the season up on the Palouse against struggling Washington State.
