Found July 09, 2009 on Another Cubs Blog:
After Kevin Hart’s start yesterday the Cubs optioned him back to Iowa. This was to be expected. He’s of no use to the Cubs the rest of the week since he started yesterday and the Cubs won’t need a 5th starter for over 10 days so they can option him to AAA and then re-call him to make another start if needed. The Cubs re-called Jeff Stevens who was acquired for The Legend this offseason. Stevens has a career 3.36 ERA in the minor leagues and has never pitching in the big leagues. Stevens has been really good this year for Iowa. In 41.1 innings with the Iowa Cubs he’s allowed only 25 hits (.176 batting average), 1 home run and has struckout 43. He’s walked 20 and allowed a home run while posting a 2.18 ERA. Over his last 10 games he’s tossed 14.1 innings, allowed 11 hits, 5 earned runs, 4 walks and 21 strikeouts. This is a good decision by the Cubs. I’ll post more about Stevens tomorrow morning. I’ll also add a bit about Soto who won’t be playing until after the all-star break at the earliest.
