The Cincinnati Reds rolled through a nine-game road trip, and with the struggling Chicago Cubs coming to town Friday night, there's little reason to think one of the best home teams in the majors won't continue its success. While the Reds' 7-2 trip came against the Marlins, Phillies and Mets - the NL East's bottom three clubs - it was a boost for a team that won three of its first 13 road games. Cincinnati (29-18) has won 10 of 12 and 14 of 18 as it returns home, where it is 16-6. "It's baseball, and you still have to play the games," shortstop Zack Cozart, who had a career-high four hits in a 7-4 win over New York on Wednesday, told the team's official website. "Just because we're playing teams - record-wise - that weren't as good, we have to take care of business, and we did that." The Reds continue to be led by Joey Votto, who's batting .512 with three homers and nine RBIs during an 11-game hitting streak. He's brough...

Reds LH Marshall back on DL with sore shoulder

The Reds have placed left-handed reliever Sean Marshall on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season because of a sore pitching shoulder. Marshall's left shoulder became tired during spring training, and he went on the disabled list from April 10-25 with tendinitis. The problem reoccurred when he resumed pitching, so the Reds put him back on the disabled list...

Votto, Hanigan HRs lead Reds over Cubs 7-4

Joey Votto extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a homer, and Ryan Hanigan and Brandon Phillips also homered on Friday night, powering the Cincinnati Reds to their fourth straight win, 7-4 over the Chicago Cubs. The Reds have won 12 of their past 15 games, surging to a season-high 12 games over .500. At 30-18, they're three wins ahead of their pace last season, when...

What is Jeff Samardzija’s trade value?

Before anyone freaks out, we’ll preface this with a disclaimer.  Among many reports, the Cubs have been trying to hammer down an extension with Jeff Samardzija for a while, but Jeff has been resistant to a long-term deal at this time.  Part of the reason is that he has been paid handsomely over his career so far and doesn’t really need the money, and part of it is because he...

Player Profile: Mike Leake

Mike Leake became the first starting pitcher to skip the minor leagues since Jim Abbott. Or was he? Leake played in the 2009 Arizona Fall League, so technically that was his first taste of professional baseball. As an amateur, Mikey dominated college baseball during his three years at Arizona State, compiling a 40-5 record on the mound. Leake is a little guy with an assortment of...

How much longer will "it is what it is" apply to the Cubs?

Not gonna talk about the Cubs getting swept by Pittsburgh today. But somewhere in the last week or two, not exactly sure (but maybe it was about Ian Stewart or something), I heard SOMEbody say "it is what it is".Or maybe I've heard it about a thousand times. Can't really remember. But it's the most annoying cliché ever.I looked it up on Urban Dictionary and...

Watch:Chicago Cubs’ Pitcher Scott Feldman Hits His First Home Run

Cubs place Shawn Camp on DL

The Chicago Cubs have placed right-handed reliever Shawn Camp on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right big toe, according to Paul Sullivan of The Chicago Tribune. Camp revealed the injury to the Cubs over the weekend. The toe had been bothering him for some time, but he attempted to pitch through the discomfort. This only aggravated the injury, and Chicago ultimately...

Buzzkilling Chicago Cubs’ Travis Wood

Reds 7, Mets 4

Brandon Phillips bounced a bizarre double over first base to snap a ninth-inning tie, and the Cincinnati Reds completed a three-game sweep of the struggling New York Mets with a 7-4 victory Wednesday. Joey Votto homered and Zack Cozart had a career-high four hits, all off Matt Harvey, in a game that featured a little bit of everything - including a testy exchange in the dugout between...

In brief: Former Red Affeldt overcomes homophobia

Last game Mike Leake, fresh off the worries of being demoted to the minors for some up-start rookie, dominated the New York Mets last night, shutting them out for 7 innings, while allowing only 3 hits. The offense used a game plan that I think should be repeated in the future and scored all the runs the team needed in the first. Sure some of it was due to the Mets pretending to be...

My Personal Attempt To Sabotage The All-Star Game

It’s that time of the year again. Seven weeks into the season and we are being asked to vote for the 2013 All-Stars. This week Cincinnati came to town. Now, imagine for a moment, if as you walked into Citi Field you were handed a ballot where you could choose which Reds you would want playing that day. Safe to say, we Mets fans would probably decide that Brandon Phillips, Joey...

Edwin Jackson Falls to 1-7 With Loss to Pirates

Once a “can’t miss” pitching prospect for the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, Chicago Cubs starter Edwin Jackson has never quite reached that once-billed potential, as witnessed in Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.Coming into the contest, Jackson owned a paltry 1-6 record and 5.76 ERA in 50.0 innings of work this season. Mediocre numbers at best, the Cubs would...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs – Game 47

Sometimes I get a little exuberant after the Pirates win a big game.  It’s my nature, I love this team, I’m a fan. Add in some Pens domination and my word.  So in my exuberance I decided that if Root Sports can have Twitter Tuesday, TiGO could have Twitter Thursday. Anyone want to be in…
