Found June 27, 2012 on Fox Sports Arizona:
Manager Fredi Gonzalez wants to see improvement from the Atlanta Braves rotation. He's getting plenty of production at the plate, particularly from Freddie Freeman. Tommy Hanson looks to give Atlanta another strong effort on the mound as Freeman and the rest of the Braves try to continue roughing up Arizona Diamondbacks pitching Wednesday night. Atlanta (39-34) has a 4.15 ERA from its rotation, ranking toward the bottom of the NL. Randall Delgado and Mike Minor struggled in short outings as the Braves lost their final two games over the weekend at Boston, leaving Gonzalez asking for more. He got it from Tim Hudson, who struck out seven in eight innings of an 8-1 victory to open this three-game series with Arizona (37-36) on Tuesday. "It all starts for me with the guy on the mound," Gonzalez said. "He gave us a solid performance. Hopefully tomorrow Tommy follows up with that and we keep rolling with quality starts." The Braves rank 15th in the NL with 30...

2012 Fantasy Baseball: Trevor Bauer Gets the Call

Unless you live in a cave, you’ve undoubtedly heard that the Arizona Diamondbacks have called up super prospect Trevor Bauer to make his debut in Atlanta on Thursday night.  I have little doubt that Bauer will be an upgrade over Joe Saunders in the Arizona rotation, but the more important question is whether he’ll be better than the worst starter on your fantasy team.  Answering...

Young struggling to regain early season form

PHOENIX Chris Young spent the second half of last season playing through a swing-altering thumb injury that caused his offensive numbers to plummet, but he said this spring that he would do it all again if it necessary. Unfortunately and perhaps unfairly, it has been. Baseball is a game of adjustments, they say, but Young must feel that this is getting a little ridiculous. Left...

Cahill, D-backs can't rally past Braves in loss

ATLANTA (AP) -- Chipper Jones and Jason Heyward homered and the Atlanta Braves withstood Arizona's comeback attempt to beat the Diamondbacks 6-4 on Wednesday night. Jones' two-run homer off Trevor Cahill in the sixth inning was his first since May 4. Tommy Hanson (9-4) gave up three runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth to...

Hudson pitches Braves past Diamondbacks

ATLANTA (AP) -- Tim Hudson answered manager Fredi Gonzalez's call for improved starts from Atlanta's rotation and the Braves opened their longest homestand of the season by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-1 on Tuesday night. Hudson (6-3) allowed one run and seven hits in eight innings. He had seven strikeouts. Freddie Freeman had three hits and drove in two runs, Chipper...

Diamondbacks' Bauer to make debut against Braves

Trevor Bauer, the No. 3 pick in last year's draft, will make his debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Atlanta Braves. Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Tuesday the 21-year-old Bauer, a right-hander and former UCLA standout, will be called up from Triple-A Reno and join the team on Wednesday. Bauer is 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA in eight starts at Reno. He...

Daniel Hudson Leaves With Forearm Injury

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Daniel Hudson left tonight’s game in the second inning with forearm tightness. Hudson allowed five runs on seven hits in just one and two-thirds innings before leaving the game with the injury. Josh Collementer relieved Hudson with a 1-0 count to Braves catcher Brian McCann. Hudson told reporters after the game that he has been dealing with...

Bauer might get shot with D-backs as soon as Thursday

Precocious Trevor Bauer appears set to make his major league debut this week. As accomplished as he is quirky, top prospect Bauer is expected to start for the Diamondbacks against Atlanta at Turner Field on Thursday. The team made no announcement before leaving on a road trip Sunday night, but FOXSportsArizona.com said Bauer has been chosen to start, citing sources with knowledge...

The 2012 Minor League Report – Week 13

The Arizona Diamondbacks lost another starting pitcher in their rotation with Daniel Hudson done for the season and facing Tommy John surgery. For now the team is moving Josh Collmenter into the rotation but that could just be short-term coverage until the All-Star break. I would look at grabbing Tyler Skaggs as a play for the second half of the season. Skaggs has a 2.84 ERA at...

Bauer and Cashner: An Object Lesson in Hype

Trevor Bauer makes his Major League Debut tonight. Carson already wrote about it, and the coverage of his impending promotion has included months of conversation, including a movement to #FreeTrevorBauer. Bauer’s big league debut has been heavily anticipated and is now going to be heavily watched. However, there’s another guy getting called up from the minors to join the...

D-backs reflect on Chipper's final chapter

When Chipper Jones arrived in earnest at the major league level in 1995, the Arizona Diamondbacks did not yet exist. In fact, Arizona had just been awarded a yet-to-be-named expansion franchise, and Chase Field (formerly Bank One Ballpark) would not open for another three years. Yet when Jones and the Atlanta Braves came to Phoenix in April, the third baseman got a standing ovation...

Jones' 2-run HR helps Braves hold off D-backs

ATLANTA (AP) -- Chipper Jones and Jason Heyward homered and the Atlanta Braves withstood Arizona's comeback attempt to beat the Diamondbacks 6-4 on Wednesday night. Jones' two-run homer off Trevor Cahill in the sixth inning was his first since May 4. Tommy Hanson (9-4) gave up three runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth to...

Beachy’s post-surgery Braves Live interview

  1. I'm glad he's doing okay, seemingly. I mean, he looks and sounds a little depressed, but who wouldn't be in his situation? 2. How is his grooming so perfect when his dominant hand is in a cast? 3. Smoltzie seems like he'd be good at motivational talks. I'm glad Beachy's getting some good support, and I hope it continues throughout his recovery process.

Damn Y’all Hudson!

In a Hudson vs. Hudson battle, Tim won on a technicality as Daniel Hudson left the game with what seemed to be a forearm injury.  To add insult to injury, he left the game after giving up 5 ER on 7 hits in 1 2/3 IP.  With a ghastly 7.35 ERA in 45 IP this year, injury or not, it’s time to cut Daniel Hudson from mixed leagues.  He looked primed to build upon a solid 2011 but so...

FanGraphs Audio: Fredi Gonzalez, Andrelton Simmons
