Found March 30, 2013 on Friarhood:
This is it Padre fans, the final tune up before the regular season begins. The Padres are in San Antonio right now playing in the very small Alamodome where a fly ball is a home run. I didn’t get a chance to touch on this before but the right field fence is only 285 feet down the line. Also the park has a straight right field fence like at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, which also makes it play even smaller. Yesterday the team played the Rangers and lost, and today they will be taking on the Houston Astros. Then after this game it is on to New York with the off day tomorrow before Opening Day on Monday. The rosters are all set and you can read about all that below: Submit articles and follow me on twitter Follow @M_Rennick Venable, Gyorko go deep early in loss at Alamodome – Padres.com “Will Venable, Jedd Gyorko and Jonathan Galvez reached the Alamodome seats, but the Rangers scored big in the middle innings, edging the Padres, 5-4, in front of a largely partisan Ranger...

And the Winner Is? Tyson Ross

Spring 2013 The San Diego Padres end their Spring Training marathon with the announcement of Right-hander Tyson Ross as their 5th starter. The 25 yr old, a 2nd round 2008 draftee of the Oakland Athletics, was acquired by the Padres in a trade with the A’s last November. The Padres sent utility infielder Andy Parrino and pitcher Andrew Werner to the A’s. Drafted at 6′ -5 ...

Top 10 Padres Storylines I’m Rooting For in 2013

The 2013 season is upon us and as our Padres prepare to take the field against the Mets I decided to look at 2013 with my rose colored glasses on and pinpoint some storylines I am optimistically looking forward to this year. 10.  A win against the Dodgers at the home opener 9.  Nick Hundley returning to his 2011 form. 8.  The debuts of Robbie Erlin, Donn Roach, and Keyvius Sampson...

Injuries Remind Padres Fans that Prospects Are No Sure Thing

In 2008 the Padres drafted Logan Forsythe and James Darnell, 46th and 69th respectively.  Both advanced hitting prospects that played third base.  Both have had their professional careers derailed by the inability to stay on the field.  For Padres fans, these two players should serve as a reality check.  Baseball is sometimes a game of attrition.  Not only is the game very hard...

Fans Have Mixed Reactions As Opening Day Approaches

The combination of a 4th place finish and a very quiet off-season has left Padres fans divided.  As the founder of this website, it is frustrating that the fan base is so down on the season, but I can’t blame them.  Bad trades, questionable moves, injuries, and watching the Dodgers and Giants continue to separate have taken a toll on the fan base. The biggest headlines this season...

Daily Friar 3.31.13

One more day left till we get to see the Padres take the field in a game that actually counts! That spring training was very long this year, and I for one am glad that is over. Now we get to see if all that work will pay off and we will also see if the numbers that occurred can carry over as well. Just a reminder that the game has an early start time tomorrow, it will be on at 10...

Rangers 5, Padres 4

There was baseball at the Alamodome, and the dimensions were unique, to say the least. Leonys Martin hit the go-ahead single in the sixth inning as the Texas Rangers edged the San Diego Padres 5-4 in exhibition play Friday night in the first baseball game played in the Alamodome. The teams were scheduled to play again Saturday afternoon in a stadium designed for football - and...

Last night was actually opening night as the Astros defeated the Rangers in Houston.
