Found July 03, 2012 on Bloody Sox:
According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have placed starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on the disabled list with an undisclosed neck injury. First baseman Mauro Gomez has been added to the major league roster. Gomez hit .311/.366/.614 with 19 home runs, 26 doubles, and a triple in 72 games for the PawSox. Gomez was up briefly for the Red Sox earlier this season, going 0-2 with a strikeout. In addition, right handed starter Justin Germano’s contract has been purchased from Pawtucket. He had an opt out clause in his contract, and he would have likely opted out of his contract if the Red Sox didn’t call him up today. Germano was 9-4 with a 2.40 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP in 17 games for the PawSox. It is likely that he’ll replace Dice-K in the 6 man rotation for now. The move to call up Gomez was likely as an insurance option if Will Middlebrooks isn’t able to come back soon. There is still no word on who the Red Sox plan on optioning down to make room for Gomez on the ros...

Daisuke Matsuzaka Placed on 15-Day Disabled List, Mauro Gomez Recalled to Take Roster Spot

Daisuke Matsuzaka is going to have some time to work out the kinks after struggling through his last start. The Red Sox are placing the starter on the 15-day disabled list, according to NESN's Jenny Dell, just a day after his worst start of the season. Daisuke allowed five runs and four hits while walking two before getting pulled with no outs in the second inning against the...

Report: Daisuke Matsuzaka May Land on Disabled List With Back Tightness After Horrid Start

Daisuke Matsuzaka was obviously having trouble Monday night against the A's, giving up five earned runs in one inning of work. But his pitching wasn't the only thing off. Matsuzaka is also battling back problems and may need time on the disabled list to deal with the injury, according to ESPN. "[Matsuzaka] went out with a crink in his neck, and we were hoping he was...

Justin Germano Fueled By Rough Bumps Over the Years, Shares Japanese Ideologies With Bobby Valentine

The journey has taken Justin Germano to different places. From Japan to Columbus to Cleveland to South Korea to Pawtucket, the right-handed pitcher has traveled the world, hoping to revive his major league career to where it was in 2007 as a member of the Padres. Now, Germano has earned a shot in Boston. Since Germano had a July 1 opt-out clause in his minor league contract, the...

Your Morning Dump...where more players could hit the DL

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Matsuzaka left after an inning, tying his shortest outing since joining the Red Sox."Leading up to the start, my neck tightened up a little bit and I ended up not being able to throw a bullpen," he...

Daisuke Matsuzaka Heads to Disabled List as Red Sox Roster Becomes a Game of Musical Chairs (Video)

Over the next few days you'll see at least a couple new faces in the Red Sox' dugout. With Daisuke Matsuzaka headed to the disabled list with an issue with a muscle in his neck, the Sox called up first baseman Mauro Gomez to provide some depth to a very thin Sox bench. In addition to that move, the Sox also sent Clayton Mortensen down to the minors -- a day after he pitched...

Red Sox Live Blog: Daisuke Matsuzaka Set to Oppose Young Athletics Stud Jarrod Parker

8:40 p.m.: The Red Sox have to feel very, very fortunate to escape from Seattle with a series split. After beginning to look like the prolific offense that many expected of them, the bats largely went cold in the Pacific Northwest, as the Sox scored just nine runs over the four-game series. The flip side of that is the pitching -- the bullpen in particular -- was borderline spectacular...

How the Red Sox should handle Dice-K going forward

Monday’s start for Daisuke Matsuzaka against the Oakland Athletics was a clear sign that he wasn’t physically ready to continue pitching for the Red Sox. He lasted only one inning allowing five runs including two home runs. On Tuesday, the team, placed him on the DL with a neck injury for the second time this season, which [...]

Dustin Pedroia Gets Day Off, Mauro Gomez Batting Sixth While Playing Third Base in Holiday Matinee

Like many others out there, Dustin Pedroia will have July 4 off. The Red Sox second baseman is out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics, as the Sox look to bounce back from a crushing walk-off loss their last time out. Recent call-up Mauro Gomez gets the call at third base, batting sixth, in his return to the big leagues. Gomez is still in search of his...

Daisuke Matsuzaka's Collapse Indicative That Franklin Morales, Aaron Cook More Deserving of Starting Role

Editor's note: NESN.com is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine’s words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. The expression on Daisuke Matsuzaka's face said it all. He appeared disappointed, somber and utterly befuddled as manager Bobby Valentine slowly sauntered to the mound with an outstretched...

Dice-K to DL, Jenks Released and More

Daisuke Matsuzaka is going on the 15-Day DL with trapezius muscle tightness.  Infielder Mauro Gomez has been called up from Pawtucket to take the roster spot with Will Middlebrooks out of the lineup again tonight. Bobby Jenks has been placed on unconditional release waivers.  Jenks has been injured all season and the DUI during spring training did not help much either. Justin...

Dice-K struggles in Red Sox loss

Daisuke Matsuzaka was looking for his first win in 2012 last night in Oakland, but it wasn’t to be as the right-hander struggled allowing five runs in 1+ innings on four hits in the worst of his five outings this year. He walked two and gave up two home runs, making it an easy decision for Bobby Valentine’s quick hook. It was learned afterwards that he left with a stiff neck...

Lester enter Tuesday night's affair with a number of inconsistent outings over the past few weeks and looking to lock down more rhythm early...
