Just another story about an athlete and their indiscretions.
As first reported by the NY Post, married NFL great and CBS pregame analyst Dan Marino, fathered a love child with a network employee and has paid her millions for her silence.
In June 2005, Donna Savattere a then 35-year-old production assistant at CBS Sports’ Manhattan Studio, gave birth to their daughter Chloe.
“They had an affair, and she had a baby,” said a source. “Everything was on the down-low and secretive.”
So I know the question you’re asking, because I asked the same. Sources? Who are they? Is this true? What does Marino have to say about this? Well, he’s admitted to the affair in a written response to the report.
“This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then,” he told The Post in a written statement. “We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved.”
“My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together,” he wrote yesterday — which happened to be his 28th wedding anniversary.
“And we continue to be a strong and loving family.”
Savattere, who moved to Texas as part of their silence agreement, has reportedly been living high on the hog with the millions paid to her by Marino. She has returned to New York and splits time between the Upper West Side and the Hamptons, and is a regular on the social scene.
Marino has been in touch with his daughter by Savattere.
“They would have impromptu meetings, which was part of the deal,” a source said.
“Donna was always saying she had to go meet with her lawyers to go over the scheduling and other issues.”
Dan Marino’s squeaky clean image has now been tarnished. Am I surprised? Not at all. Marino is not unlike any of the other athletes we report about who get caught cheating, and Savattere is unlike any other opportunistic woman who uses having a child by an athlete to come up. The only difference is Marino had the money to silence her.
