There were some rumblings early Thursday that the reeling Michigan Wolverines hockey team might lose a player to the OHL. Later in the day, the Michigan Daily’s Matt Slovin confirmed those rumors as accurate: Can report that freshman forward Daniel Milne, whose #OHL rights are held by Owen Sound, is not practicing with #Michigan today. — Matt Slovin (@MattSlovin) January 10, 2013 And now I can confirm that freshman Daniel Milne has left the #Michigan hockey program. — Matt Slovin (@MattSlovin) January 10, 2013 Milne had struggled to carve out playing time, even on what may go down as the worst Michigan hockey team in recent memory. He played in seven games this season, recording zero points and six shots. The 5-foot-11 forward from Unionville, Ontario, played in the Ontario Junior Hockey League prior to committing to Michigan. Michigan coach Red Berenson has expressed his frustration over losing players to pro leagues repeatedly in the past — the most notable recent example being goalie John Gibson, who just took home the MVP and a gold medal from the World Juniors; Gibson committed to Michigan before reversing course and signing with Kitchener. The Wolverines host Alaska this weekend for a two-game series.
