Fantasy Football Champs:
Lions kicker David Akers has done very little during the team's OTAs.Fantasy Spin:Akers was the top fantasy kicker after booting 44 field goals in 2011-12, but slumped last season and some of that was due to an aggravation of offseason surgery. He's hoping to be completely healthy before he starts kicking. Be very waryl of picking Akers until you know he's 100 percent healthy.
BEST OF MAXIM
Glover Quin has been over looked and under valued after the focus put on Dashon Goldson this off-season.
The Lions needed help in the secondary and Glover Quin is the perfect addition as well as an upgrade.
Drafted by the Houston Texans in the 4th round of the 2009 NFL Draft, he initially played cornerback for the Texans as he did in college at the University of New Mexico.
According to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com, the Lions have signed free agent fullback Montell Owens. Source: #Lions sign veteran RB Montell Owens (5-10, 219). Started 4 games with Jacksonville last year (42 carries, 209 yards, 5.0 avg, TD). — Tim Twentyman (@ttwentyman) May 30, 2013 Owens was recently released by the Jaguars where he spent the first four years of his NFL career...
ALLEN PARK, Mich. One of the top position battles for the Detroit Lions this off-season is the receiver spot to replace Titus Young, who was released four months ago.
Veteran Nate Burleson believes the replacement quite possibly will be Patrick Edwards, who was signed as an undrafted free agent a year ago but was injured and spent last season on the practice squad.
3.03 Detroit Lions Larry Warford, G, Kentucky (6’3″, 332)
Warford is a solid guard who has great pass protection skills to go along with his mostly solid technique. Warford is the type of player that will give you 110% on every play, a type of guy that the Lions sorely needed. He might be able to step in right away and earn some playing time. He is considered as a value pick...
The Lions are looking for a receiver to take advantage of the attention Calvin Johnson gets from the defense and Nate Burleson thinks second-year wideout Patrick Edwards could be one of those guys, according to Lions beat writer Dave Birkett.Fantasy Spin:Edwards will have to work hard to get targets from Matthew Stafford who seeks out Megaton first and then Burleson, Brandon Pettigrew...
Whatever your feelings on Calvin Johnson‘s social politics, you have to give the man credit for one thing: He’s willing to put his money where his mouth is.
On Friday, The New Republic published a piece about athletes’ mismanagement of their own money, and why so many fail to set themselves up for life after their careers. It’s a lengthy piece, and well worth the read, but...
As things stand right now, Lions DT Ndamukong Suh carries a cap figure of $21 million for the 2014 season. He still has two years and $24 million remaining on his rookie deal, so it would make sense for the Lions to consider a contract extension at some point in the next year.
“I’m two years away from even considering those things, but to be honest with you I’d love to be...
The Detroit Lions made a move Thursday to try and improve their much-maligned special-teams units.
The club confirmed the signing of running back Montell Owens, who played for Jacksonville the last seven seasons.
The Jaguars, who picked him up as an undrafted free agent out of Maine in 2006, released him earlier this month.
Owens, 29, was a special-teams selection to the Pro Bowl...
One of my sleeper teams for the 2013 NFL season is the Detroit Lions.

The NFL often gets accused of not getting themselves involved in helping players until well after the fact. But according to a report from Eric Adelson of Yahoo!Sports, NFL director of player engagement Troy Vincent claims the league offered former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young help nearly 18 months before many of his problems came to a head after someone close to Young...
Via Deadspin, this right here is a pro-abstinence movie, in production, funded by Lions WR Calvin Johnson aka Megatron. Non basketball related, we know. But this is way too good to pass up.
Sports GIF Of The Year
And somebody should let Jim Schwartz know that Thursday's practice will instead be a team-building exercise.
