A.B. According to multiple sources, Red Sox slugger, David Ortiz, has signed a 2 year $26 million contract extension with his Boston club. There has been a lot of speculation about whether Red Sox ownership would agree with Ortiz on a contract extension, especially for two years. The most clutch hitter in Red Sox history turns 37 in 13 days and had season ending achilles surgery last year. But many fans and talk show hosts in Boston have argued that Red Sox ownership wanted Ortiz back in order to sell tickets and have Big Papi retire in a Sox uniform. Being the homer that I am, and with the recent departure of Beckett & Gonzalez, I’m ok with keeping Ortiz for both baseball and market-the-retirement reasons. I try to root for the laundry, but as far as Ortiz is concerned, I want his number retired in right field. Letting him go to the Yankees would have certainly voided that.
