Hanley Ramirez can only hope to replicate the production that David Ortiz has provided since returning from a stint on the disabled list. The Dodgers shortstop at least has Ortiz’s blessing, though. Ortiz sent out a tweet on Thursday afternoon wishing his “boy” the best of luck. Ramirez already returned with a bang — going deep in his first game on Tuesday and going 3-for-4 on Wednesday — but a little extra support from Big Papi never hurt. Ortiz and Ramirez, of course, were teammates in Boston briefly in 2005, when Ramirez was still an up-and-coming prospect. Ramirez was eventually dealt to the Marlins, and then later to the Dodgers, but it’s clear the two still keep in touch. Check out Ortiz’s tweet below. I can see u!!!! S.O to my boy Hanley ramirez he just come back from the DL... Live ur life like is the last day✌ http://t.co/Oc8osxzQfc— David Ortiz (@davidortiz) May 02, 2013

In his third start since returning from thumb surgery, Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez suffered a “serious” left hamstring injury last night while running the bases, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. The hamstring injury will result in another trip to the disabled list for Ramirez. Ramirez suffered the injury during the top of the sixth inning when...

David Ortiz Gets Night Off As Red Sox Look for Series Win in Finale With Blue Jays

American League pitchers are likely running out of ideas when it comes to getting David Ortiz out as the Red Sox designated hitter has been red-hot since returning. It’s beginning to look like the only option is to hope that Ortiz’s name isn’t penciled into the lineup. The Blue Jays are lucky enough to have that happen Thursday night where Ortiz will get a night off (to start...

Habs fan tries to jinx Quebec arena

In 2008 a Red Sox-rooting construction worker named Gino Castignoli planted a David Ortiz jersey in the concrete at the new Yankee Stadium in the hopes that he could curse his favorite team's rival with some villainous Boston mojo. The jersey was later excavated and sold for charity and the Yankees, apparently uncursed, won the World Series in their first season in the new ballpark...

Game 27: May-be a good start to the month

David Ortiz continues to be a threat in the clean-up spot for the Red Sox. Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer Last night’s 9-7 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays ended a five-game win streak for the Boston Red Sox. It was also the first time this season the Red Sox lost the first game of series. They are 8-1 in that category and have won six of eight series to begin the season. Clay...

Dodgers win; Ramirez homers in return

Hyun-Jin Ryu had a career-best 12 strikeouts in six innings and Hanley Ramirez homered in his first start of the season, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. Carlos Gonzalez gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a home run - but it didn't last long. Ryu (3-1) was in control throughout most of his outing. After...

Papi weighs in on Buchholz

David Ortiz has been with the Red Sox for all the ups and downs of the past ten years. He helped the Sox win two World Series. He suffered through the 2003 ALCS, the 2011 September collapse, the beer and chicken fiasco, and Bobby Valentine's managing. With everything that he's done for the team, his opinion really matters. He's like an unofficial team leader. So naturally...

Jason Terry and David Ortiz are neighbors and yeah they've talked 2004

The Red Sox comeback against the Yankees in 2004 was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, sporting events I'd ever witnessed in person. Now, almost 10 years later, another Boston team is trying to do the same thing against New York. Can they do it? The odds are obviously extremely doubtful. On top of the fact that no NBA team has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit before...

Dodgers’ Gordon begins fielding balls at second

Dee Gordon has begun taking ground balls at second base suggesting his future with the Dodgers will not be at shortstop. The Dodgers sent the 25-year-old Gordon to Triple-A Albuquerque to start the season. Gordon has compiled a .302/.368/.417 line during his minor league stay and has stolen 12 bases. The Dodges have Hanley Ramirez and Mark Ellis at shortstop and second base. Gordon...

Lester, Sox hit a speed bump as Sox fall 9-7 to Blue Jays

Jim Monaghan Contributing writer Edwin Encarnacion's 2-run home run in the bottom of the 7th inning off reliever Junichi Tazawa - his 2nd home run of the game - proved to be the difference as the Red Sox lost to Toronto 9-7 at the Rogers Centre. The loss snapped a 5-game Boston winning streak.Jon Lester (pictured) started for Boston. He lasted 6 innings and allowed 6 runs...

Red Sox Tie Franchise Record with 18 April Wins

During a month from hell for the city of Boston, the Red Sox have finished one of the best months of April in franchise history by winning 18 games. Almost every night the Red Sox have given the city and the fan base 3 hours to think of something beside pain. In the first game back at Fenway after the tragedy, the Red Sox honored the 1st responders and David Ortiz gave one of the...

Your Morning Dump...where Salty's error wasn't really an error.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.  “It looked like he got tied up with [home plate umpire] Clint [Fagan] behind the plate,” said Red Sox manager John Farrell. “He goes to **** his arm, had his hand hits the mask. After conferring...
