MINNEAPOLIS -- Third-ranked Minnesota held off rival St. Cloud State, 2-1, Friday, in WCHA men's hockey action at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers got on the board first, at the 6:34 mark of the first period, when Jake Hansen batted home a deflected puck. The visiting Huskies knotted things at 1-all with a power-play tally in the second period. However, Minnesota used solid defense to surge to victory from there. With their win, the Gophers improved to just 8-6 on Fridays this season. Minnesota is now 3-6 on Fridays since mid-November. Minnesota and St. Cloud State return to action tomorrow night, at 7 p.m.in St. Cloud, in a game set to be televised on FOX SportsNorth.
