“That dude is just that talented. I think it would take him probably about a good two weeks to get very acquainted with football, knowing what he’s supposed to do. I think that’s all he’d need with his physical ability. I’ve seen a little bit of his highlights from high school. He’s got the hands, he can run the routes, he’s fast enough. He could play in this league if he put it all together.” That is what Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Dez Bryant said of LeBron James. Many sports fans and agents have thought about James ditching the basketball court to put on some pads and a helmet. There was even a commercial that had LeBron take his talents to the Cleveland Browns. It is widely known that James is a huge Cowboys fan, so maybe Bryant is trying to convince James to leave the NBA for the NFL. Hey you never know it could happen. LeBron has a football player’s build. Plus at St. Vincent-St. Mary’s in Akron, Ohio, James was a star receiver for his high school. He did give up the sport as a high school senior. So what things would LeBron have to work on if he did decide to play for Dallas…Cowboys that is? Bryant said “All he’d need to do is probably work on a little technique. It’s not like he’s never played football before. He has played football. I think he’d be a beast in the red zone. I think he could do it. I think he could do it, seriously.” Dez does have a great point. James has the height, power, hands, speed and leaping ability that would create a major problem for NFL defenses. This type of talk might have started up because another NBA star showed up at the Cowboys training camp on Thursday. Los Angeles Clippers point Chris Paul stopped by for a visit. Paul was really psyched to check out the camp. He said that it was “one of the highlights of my life.” “I’m like a little kid,” Paul said. “I’ve done a lot of good things in my career, but this is one of the highlights of my life. These guys probably have no clue what it means to me. I used to act like I was Ken Norton in the backyard playing middle linebacker.” So could James, Paul, or another NBA star pull a Michael Jordan type move and leave the NBA for another sport? Probably not. I can’t see anyone being like Bo Jackson and dominate as a two sport athlete these days. Still it is fun to think about how some sports stars would fair if they went into another sport at the pro level. Who would you like to see make a career move in the sporting world?
