The Arizona Diamondbacks are in first place without him, but they'd love to have him back.  Adam Eaton was set to make his full-season debut this year, then he landed on the disabled list.  Unfortunately, his stint on the DL looks like it will continue longer than expected after he suffered a setback. #Dbacks OF Adam Eaton has returned to Phx to see doc after having soreness in elbow. — Steve Gilbert (@SteveGilbertMLB) May 22, 2013 #Dbacks Adam Eaton says Dr. Lee told him it looks like it's muscular issue not ligament. Is getting an MRI to make sure. @adamspankyeaton — Steve Gilbert (@SteveGilbertMLB) May 22, 2013 The results of the MRI will determine how much longer, if at all, Eaton's rehab process will take.  He has been on the disabled list since the start of the season with a sprained UCL.  A tear in the UCL usually requires Tommy John surgery.  While these types of injuries to position players are far less common than they are with pitchers, it's not unheard of for a position player to have to undergo Tommy John.  Carl Crawford had to do it last season. Eaton was called up last season and played in 22 games.  His speed and defense are exciting to the Diamondbacks, but they think his bat will develop as well.  Last year, he hit .259/.382/.412.  He will look to improve on that this season as soon as he is cleared to play again. Good news: No structural damage in Eaton's elbow

PHOENIX -- Although Diamondbacks outfielder Adam Eaton received good news on his visit to the doctor on Wednesday, he likely will still miss at least another month as he recovers from a strained left elbow. Eaton was shut down earlier in the week after feeling soreness in the elbow while on a rehabilitation assignment at Class A Visalia, but team physician Dr. Michael Lee found...

D-Backs shut down OF Eaton after setback

The Arizona Diamondbacks have ended Adam Eaton's rehabilitation stint in the minors after the young outfielder felt soreness in his injured left elbow. Eaton had been a designated hitter in the minors for the past few weeks but began playing the outfield last weekend. Manager Kirk Gibson, speaking before Arizona's game at Colorado on Wednesday, says Eaton felt discomfort...

Adam Eaton has setback in rehab

Those looking forward to seeing Adam Eaton being back in a Diamondbacks uniform this season may have to wait a while. The outfielder suffered a setback on Monday with his left elbow strain, an injury that he has been recovering from since the beginning of spring training.

D-backs shut down Eaton after setback with elbow

PHOENIX (AP) -- The Diamondbacks ended Adam Eaton's rehabilitation stint in the minors Tuesday after their expected starting center fielder felt soreness in his injured elbow. Eaton had been used as a designated hitter in the minors for the past few weeks but began playing the outfield last weekend to get into game shape. D-backs manager Kirk Gibson, speaking before Wednesday...

Eaton to get second opinion; D-backs stay patient

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks got good news Thursday in learning that a setback in center fielder Adam Eaton's recovery from a sprained ulnar collateral ligament does not involve structural damage, but the team still wants to be sure its relief is not misplaced. Eaton said Friday he will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, the renowned orthopedic surgeon who specializes...

Healthy body, numbers for D-backs' Chavez

PHOENIX -- Josh Hamilton received the largest free-agent contract in average annual value last winter, and Zach Greinke was given the longest yearly commitment, but Eric Chavez is making a strong case as the most valuable bang-for-the-buck signee of the offseason. His numbers are that good. Chavez has worked his way into the cleanup spot in the Diamondbacks batting order over the...

No structural damage for Diamondbacks’ Adam Eaton

Earlier this week, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that outfielder Adam Eaton had experienced a setback during his recovery from an elbow injury. The team released good news yesterday, reporting that Eaton is not dealing with structural damage, only irritation in his elbow. While still a setback, it doesn’t look like Eaton will require surgery – which would have...

Help is on the way for first place D-Backs

Daniel Hudson’s return will be a boost. (@DBacks, Twitter) When you look at the situation (one very good starting pitcher, a utility “glue” guy, a prototypical leadoff hitter, and arguably the team’s second best overall hitter are all out with fairly lengthy injuries) and consider this team is tied for first in the NL West, it’s pretty promising. And think of this: shortly...

2013 Fantasy Baseball Rookie Report, Week 8: Gregorius Raking at the Plate

We’ve been given a great crop of rookie pitchers in 2013. The hitters? Not so much. Evan Gattis, with eight home runs, is the only rookie to hit more than four home runs as of Tuesday evening. Light-hitting Pete Kozma is second in RBI with 17. Only A.J. Pollock has stolen more than four bases. Out of those three only Kozma has an OBP above .300. Seven of the 17 rookie hitters with...

Former manager calls for automation of ball and strike calls

There’s a growing majority (but not consensus) that Major League Baseball should adopt a more expansive instant replay review system, but Former Arizona Diamondbacks manager and current broadcaster Bob Brenly seems to want to skip a step and move straight toward removing the umpire from behind home plate and “automate” ball/strike calls.  Never mind that the technology isn’t...

Padres-Diamondbacks Preview

Runs have been difficult to come by for the Arizona Diamondbacks lately, but their starting pitchers - especially Brandon McCarthy - have been on top of their game. McCarthy takes the mound Friday night when Arizona seeks its fourth victory in five tries against the visiting San Diego Padres and both teams look to avoid a third straight loss. The Diamondbacks (26-21) have scored...

Diamondbacks: No need to buy?

The Diamondbacks are that rare contender that might not act as buyers at the non-waiver deadline. They lack an obvious need, and soon might face a number of surpluses: *Center fielder Adam Eaton is expected to return from a strained left elbow by the end of the month, giving the team four quality outfielders – Eaton, Jason Kubel, Cody Ross and one of the league’s best producers...
