R.A. Dickey, New York Mets starting pitching.
Another day, another shutout. It wasn’t long ago that I said we ran out of superlatives for Dickey and now others are beginning to realize the same thing.
He really has been amazing this year with a pitch that seemed more like a sideshow pitch than a real major league pitch. But as Phil Neikro said, Dickey throws the knuckleball like a butterfly on steroids. But it’s more like a hummingbird or something than a butterfly. Butterfly is what the others throw. I used to toy around with a hard knuckleball as a teen because I saw Candiotti and others throwing this soft pitch which was hard on the knuckles. But I was capable of throwing a ball 95 MPH so I tried to harden the pitch and it just never worked out.
Will Dickey bring back the knuckleball? Probably not. But he will get people talking. If he starts the All Star Game then he has a platform to show it off.
He gets lifted for pitch counts though I’m not sure he needs to be. A typical knu...

R.A. Dickey Back to Baffling Hitters
Before the seventh inning of last night’s game against the Dodgers, the only hit R.A. Dickey had allowed was a fly ball to left-center field that should have been caught by the centerfielder Andres Torres.
As legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully put it during the broadcast, “The Dodgers have been flailing away at R.A. Dickey. That’s the best word I can come...

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- R.A. Dickey allowed three hits over eight innings to become the major leagues' first 12-game winner, Daniel Murphy drove in five runs and the New York Mets sent the Los Angeles Dodgers to their season-worst sixth straight loss with an 9-0 victory Saturday night.

Tejada, Murphy, And Dickey All Amazin’ In 9-0 Victory

Mets 9, Dodgers 0
LOS ANGELES -- R.A. Dickey needed little run support on Friday night but the New York Mets provided it anyway, drubbing the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-0 at Dodger Stadium for their third straight win. Mets Survive June
R.A. Dickey is a big reason for the Mets holding things together in June.
While a lot of people waited for the June Swoon, and the Mets gave plenty of reason to expect it, it just didn’t happen. Even with the sweep, after a sweep, followed by a sweep then another sweep, they still managed to come out of June over .500. 15-13 isn’t lighting the world on fire or anything but it’s...
Mets Business: Why in the world is no one showing up to games?
The Mets are fun to watch. They’ve had some bad games, but they’ve had some great ones. They are a young team. They have heart. Their manager is fiery and gets the best out of his players. Their veterans are All-Stars and leaders. Dickey shocks the world. Santana changes HI57ORY. Wright breaks Mets records. The team is 3.5 games out of first place and half a game out of the wild...

Lemon Harang For Everyone
It's very rare that the outcome is proportional to the probable pitchers for that night. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I look at a matchup for a Mets game and think "sure win", and the Mets get clobbered. It happens the other way as well. Usually those pesky outside factors get in the way.But when I saw that Aaron "Lemon" Harang was pitching...
Mets are ‘in it’ at the half way point…..so they got that going for them…which is nice
How in the hell are the New York Mets still in the NL East Race 1 game short of the halfway point in the season? Honestly, did any of us think the Mets would be 6 games over .500 much less 3.5 games out of first place at this point? Are there Angels in the outfield? Is Terry Collins injecting each player with HGH prior to first pitch each night? Is it ‘little Jerry’,...
The New York Mets Have A Rotation You Can Believe In
The New York Mets continue to have success on the field and as part of our free MLB picks (like Thursday night).
Can they continue those winning ways this weekend in Los Angeles, and beyond?
With three games already in the win column and being on the verge of a four-game sweep of the Dodgers in Los Angeles for the first time EVER, the answer is a resounding yes.

On All-Star arguments
Sometimes, over at ESPN, I contribute to a thing called "Triple Play." Last night, I wrote three answers to questions about the All-Star Game, and today, along with the responses from Christina Kahrl and Logan Burdine, they published them. I bring this up entirely as a matter of self-promotion and as a demand that you go read everything I write.
Ok, no, actually, I bring...
