Donovan McNabb is a borderline Pro Football Hall of Fame candidate, but it seems his contributions at Syracuse will be immortalized.
The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback tweeted on Monday that the university plans to retire his No. 5 on November 2. McNabb played thirteen seasons in the NFL, most recently in 2011 with the Minnesota Vikings. He was drafted in 1999 by the Eagles with the second overall pick.
Thought he didn’t win a Heisman or lead his team to a National Championship, McNabb’s college career at Syracuse stood out. He started every game in his four-year career, finishing with 8581 total passing yards and 78 touchdowns. He was the Big East Offensive Player of the Year in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
Check out what Mcnabb had to say about the honor in the tweet below.
