Whenever a team wins a game on a walkoff walk, fans go crazy. It's called the shrimp alert, and people go nuts over it (myself included). On Thursday night in Tampa Bay, we had our first shrimp of the season, and it went to...Luke Scott, of all players. Aaron Loup left the game for Toronto with men on first and second, and he was replaced by Brad Lincoln. Lincoln walked Ryan Roberts on five pitches, then got ahead of Scott 0-2. After he stayed alive with a foul ball, Scott then watched the next four pitches sail by, out of the strike zone, and SHRIMP FOR ALL IN TAMPA BAY! Anywho, this was a solid back and forth game, with Pittsburgh tying the game at one following a Pedro Alvarez sacrifice fly in the sixth. The Pirates wasted a leadoff single in the seventh, but the Mets came roaring back to take the lead on a double by Ike Davis. Pittsburgh tied the game at two in the eighth after a homer by Alvarez, but once again wasted a leadoff single in the ninth (though Juan Lageres had a lot to do with that). In the ninth against Pirates closer Jason Grilli, the Mets got a leadoff single from Marlon Byrd, bunted him to second, and drove him home after a single by Mike Baxter. Very tough loss for the Pirates in a game that they had ample opportunities to win. Pitching Lines of the Night: Scott Kazmir was brilliant for the Indians in their 9-2 win over the A's, allowing one run on five hits over six innings, striking out ten without a walk. Pat Corbin allowed one run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings for the Diamondbacks, walking two with four strikeouts in their 2-1 win over the Phillies. David Price allowed four runs (two earned) in seven innings on seven hits in eight innings, striking out eight and walking one in the Rays win over the Blue Jays. Hitting Lines of the Night: In the Twins' 5-3 win over the Red Sox, rookie Oswaldo Arcia went 2/4 with two runs, two RBI, a triple, and a homer. Brian McCann had his best game since returning for the Braves in their 6-3 win in San Francisco, going 3/5 with three RBI, a double, and a homer. The dynamic Mark Reynolds led the Indians to a 9-2 win over the A's, going 2/3 with two runs, two RBI, a walk, a double, and a homer. Evan Longoria had a great game for the Rays in their win over the Blue Jays, going 3/5 with two runs, an RBI, and a pair of doubles. Other Games: The Royals beat the Orioles 6-2 to avoid a sweep. The Yankees beat the Rockies 3-1. The Nationals edged the Tigers 5-4. The Angels beat the Astros 6-5, but the bigger story was Anaheim's (now lifted) protest. Today's Games: Max Scherzer starts for the Tigers against the Indians. Jon Lester and the Red Sox host the Blue Jays. Jeff Samardzija starts for the Cubs in Washington against Ross Detwiler. Yovani Gallardo takes on Tony Cingrani in Cincinnati. Alex Cobb starts for the Rays, hosting the Padres. Shelby Miller gets the nod for the Cardinals as they host the Rockies. Jason Hammel starts for the Orioles in Minnesota. The red hot Hisashi Iwakuma starts for the Mariners against the A's. Tim Hudson takes on Matt Cain in San Francisco.
