Late Saturday evening FOXSports.com recruiting analyst, Evan Daniels, tweeted out that Mississippi State transfer Rodney Hood has decided to transfer to Duke University. Hood, a 6-8 native out of Meridian, Mississippi, averaged 10.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in his one and only season at Mississippi State will be eligible beginning at the 2013-14 season. Hood chose the Blue Devils over the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Hood, who has been a life long Duke fan, visited the Blue Devils two weekends ago and came away impressed. “I went to the visit and I got to talk to Coach K eye to eye and the rest of the coaching staff. I met some of the players. You know, it just felt great,” Hood said. “When you go to Duke you’re playing on the highlest level of college basketball and the tradition there is great so it was good to go visit.”

After deciding to leave the Mississippi State program due to the firing of former head coach Rick Stansbury, the former top-40 high school recruit put together his list of potential suitors. Duke, Ohio State, Memphis, and Florida State were the top four schools of his choosing. He took official visits to Memphis, Ohio State, and Duke and after participating in the Kevin Durant Skills Academy last weekend, narrowed his short list down to the Blue Devils and the Buckeyes. Speculation had been building during the last week that a decision would be forthcoming.

“His skill level is really nice,” said former teammate and Mississippi State alum Arnett Moultrie. “He’s athletic and gets inside when he needs to. He’ll be one-and-done wherever he goes.” Moultrie, who was selected in the 2012 NBA Draft this past Thursday, also said that he talks to Hood multiple times a week and expected a decision from him at the end of the month.

Hood will join 2013 verbal commit Matt Jones as the only two newcomers for the Blue Devils at the start of the 2013-14 season. Both will add much needed depth at the wing position. Hood will be able to participate in practices for the Blue Devils during the 2012-13 season.
