Eagles claim Rookie DT Antonio Dixon

The Philadelphia Eagles cut longtime backup quarterback AJ Feeley from the roster today which was a move originally thought made to bring Michael Vick off of the exemption list so that he could continue to practice with the team.

Well, the Eagles opted to keep Michael Vick on the exemption list in order to sign rookie defensive tackle Antonio Dixon.

Now the move to acquire Dixon is quite odd because originally General Manager Tom Heckert claimed they cut Dan Klecko due to not wanting four defensive tackles on the team. Now by claiming Dixon they now have four defensive tackles.

Antonio Dixon played forty games for the University of Miami, where he only started in ten of those games. He is 6'3" and 320 pounds. Antonio was not a full-time starter in Miami and did not impress many people going into the draft which led to him going undrafted. The Redskins took a shot on him signing him in april but it apparently never panned-out for him in Washington. Well, it's not like they need anymore defensive tackle help with Albert Haynesworth there.

Dixon has ideal height and weight for the NFL and scouts say his speed is very good for his position. Maybe he can make a name for himself being the fourth defensive tackle on the Eagles depth-chart.
