Since it is Election Day and I expect the news will be slow, there is this little tidbit from ESPN which released the list of announcers and commentators for the 2012-13 basketball season. For ACC games there is one notable(and no doubt very popular) change. Longtime announcer Mike Patrick will no longer broadcast ACC games. Patrick has been assigned to do Big East contests twice a week which basically says ESPN hates the Big East with the heat of a thousand suns or something. Here are the voices for ACC broadcasts this season. Select games on ESPN or ESPN2: Dan Shulman and Dick Vitale Tuesday on ESPNU: Tom Hart and Len Elmore Wednesday on ESPN or ESPN2: Dan Shulman or Dave O' Brien and Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas or Doris Burke Thursday on ESPN or ESPN2: Dave O'Brien and Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas or Doris Burke Saturday on ESPN: Dave O'Brien and Doris Burke Sunday on ESPNU: Carter Blackburn and Jay Williams The fan reaction and even obsession with announcers is always been fascinating. I remember growing up watching ACC games on Raycom/Jefferson Pilot and having a very bad opinion of Billy Packer. I was even told by my father that "Billy Packer hated UNC" and even hated the ACC. Of course Packer went to Wake Forest and played on a Final Four team there so I never really could reconcile that last bit. However the UNC part is held to be true, if only via anecdote, from now until the end of time. Patrick had created a fair amount of disdain among ACC fans across the board. NC State fans in particular came to hate Patrick for various comments he made during Sidney Lowe's final year and UNC fans always felt Patrick was to pro-Duke. Then again, many of our Tar Heel brethren perceive all announcers as being pro-Duke except for former Duke player Jay Bilas. It should be noted, Len Elmore will still be doing ACC games and no doubt looking for "fish sticks" at UNC games. At any rate, Mike Patrick is now a problem for Big East fans to deal with. My condolences to them. This article was originally published at http://tarheelblog.com. If you are interested in sharing your website's content with SCACCHoops.com, Contact Us.
