Even when the All-Star Game rosters end up looking OK, there are still certain players who deserve a second, third or 10th look. This season is no different. The biggest debate leading up to this year’s All-Star roster selections centered on Dodgers rookie phenom Yasiel Puig, who has taken the baseball world by storm. Many think that Puig should be in the All-Star Game because of his hot start and the fact that fans want to see him play, while others, including Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon, think that Puig’s limited action should eliminate him from All-Star consideration. Puig wasn’t selected to the All-Star Game, but he is one of five National League finalists in this year’s MLB.com Final Vote. The American League side of things features five relievers. For the purpose of this list, those 10 players weren’t considered, as they stand the best chance of finding their way into the All-Star Game. So which other players who didn’t receive an All-Star nod should be playing in the Midsummer Classic? This year’s rosters aren’t all that bad, particularly in the National League. There are still some players on the outside looking in who could make an All-Star case, though, including Evan Longoria and Jacoby Ellsbury. Those are just two players that come to mind, but there are others, including players who aren’t exactly household names but have had great seasons so far. Let’s not wait any longer.
