According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Memphis Grizzlies waived former Boston Celtic, Fab Melo, a few days ago and now Wojo is reporting that the under-developed big man has cleared waivers. Melo, the 22nd overall pick in the 2012 draft, was sent to Memphis in a deal that netted the Celtics both Donte Green and cash considerations after he failed to show team brass that he had improved from year one to year two. While it’s unclear exactly what the Grizzlies’ motive was in making this deal, we know that the Celtics were in it for the cap relief it would provide them with. Greene’s contract is not guaranteed for this season and he can be waived at any time this year without Boston taking any hit to their cap. As for the Grizzlies, Melo’s contract is in fact guaranteed for the 2013-14 campaign and whether he plays for Memphis or not, the team is still liable to shell out the $1.3 million that the Brazilian center is owed this year.
