As many fantasy owners have come to accept, 2012 has not been the year to own Philadelphia Eagles players on your team. Players like Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy have not lived up to their high draft spots while players like DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin have not provided the upside potential many owners hoped for. But that may change for at least this week, as the Eagles are facing up against one of the worst defenses in football, the New Orleans Saints. Combine the good match up with the added motivation of trying to keep the season alive and the Eagles will be primed to put up some big fantasy numbers on Monday Night. QB: Michael Vick has been a disappoint to fantasy owners this year. Using standard scoring Vick is ranked as the 15th best quarterback this season between Andy Dalton and Carson Palmer. Last week against the Falcons he had a very mediocre game throwing for 191 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 42 yards with most of the points coming when the game was out of hand. One positive note for Vick is he has slowed down his turnovers from the start of the season with only four giveaways in the last four games. The good news this week is that the Saints defense averages giving up 475 total yards per game and Vick has more incentive than ever to play well with his job on the line. Unless you have one of the elite QBs on you team, Vick is a start in this make or break week RB: LeSean McCoy has also fallen into the category of a disappointment with his production this year. Considered universally as one of the top three fantasy RBs before the season, he is currently ranked as the 13th best running back through eight weeks. He has been hurt by the play calling at times this season with 16 or less carries in the last three games. But despite this he is still a must start in any league format and should have a very good outing against a Saints run defense that gave up 251 yards on the ground to the Broncos running backs last week. WR: Both DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin have been hurt by Vick's subpar quarterback play this year and both are waiting to have a breakout fantasy game. Jackson has been slightly more consistent with his production getting at least eight targets in every game but has only broken 100 yards once. Maclin has put up two double digits fantasy performaces but has failed to break three fantasy points in four out of the seven games this year. But given the fact that the Saints secondary gives up over 30 fantasy points to opposing team's wide receivers on average, I think both players are a start this week as low end number twos receivers or flex plays. TE: Brent Celek is in the midst of a fantasy slump averaging four points a game over his last five contests. The tight end fantasy position has been very unpredictable this year outside of the elite guys and Celek is in a large second tier of tight ends that have played up and down depending on the week. As with the other Eagles position players, Celek is a player you should take a chance on this week as I think he will fall back into a rhythm with Vick and bust out of his slump. DST: If you still own the Eagles defense, you may want to rethink if you are ready to own a fantasy football team. The defense has been awful this year and does nothing get you any fantasy points. They have only two sacks in the last four weeks and two takeways in the last five games. With new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles still trying to get a handle on the play calling, the defense is an absolute no play and should be dropped as soon as possible.
