As many fantasy owners have come to accept, 2012 has not been the year to own Philadelphia Eagles players on your team. Players like Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy have not lived up to their high draft spots while players like DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin have not provided the upside potential many owners hoped for. But that may change for at least this week, as the Eagles are facing up against one of the worst defenses in football, the New Orleans Saints. Combine the good match up with the added motivation of trying to keep the season alive and the Eagles will be primed to put up some big fantasy numbers on Monday Night. QB: Michael Vick has been a disappoint to fantasy owners this year. Using standard scoring Vick is ranked as the 15th best quarterback this season between Andy Dalton and Carson Palmer. Last week against the Falcons he had a very mediocre game throwing for 191 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 42 yards with most of the points coming when the game was out of hand. One positive note for Vick is he has slowed down his turnovers from the start of the season with only four giveaways in the last four games. The good news this week is that the Saints defense averages giving up 475 total yards per game and Vick has more incentive than ever to play well with his job on the line. Unless you have one of the elite QBs on you team, Vick is a start in this make or break week RB: LeSean McCoy has also fallen into the category of a disappointment with his production this year. Considered universally as one of the top three fantasy RBs before the season, he is currently ranked as the 13th best running back through eight weeks. He has been hurt by the play calling at times this season with 16 or less carries in the last three games. But despite this he is still a must start in any league format and should have a very good outing against a Saints run defense that gave up 251 yards on the ground to the Broncos running backs last week. WR: Both DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin have been hurt by Vick's subpar quarterback play this year and both are waiting to have a breakout fantasy game. Jackson has been slightly more consistent with his production getting at least eight targets in every game but has only broken 100 yards once. Maclin has put up two double digits fantasy performaces but has failed to break three fantasy points in four out of the seven games this year. But given the fact that the Saints secondary gives up over 30 fantasy points to opposing team's wide receivers on average, I think both players are a start this week as low end number twos receivers or flex plays. TE: Brent Celek is in the midst of a fantasy slump averaging four points a game over his last five contests. The tight end fantasy position has been very unpredictable this year outside of the elite guys and Celek is in a large second tier of tight ends that have played up and down depending on the week. As with the other Eagles position players, Celek is a player you should take a chance on this week as I think he will fall back into a rhythm with Vick and bust out of his slump. DST: If you still own the Eagles defense, you may want to rethink if you are ready to own a fantasy football team. The defense has been awful this year and does nothing get you any fantasy points. They have only two sacks in the last four weeks and two takeways in the last five games. With new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles still trying to get a handle on the play calling, the defense is an absolute no play and should be dropped as soon as possible. Report: Mike Vick, Philadelphia Eagles assistant coaches at odds

Pointing to the increasing levels of drama and dysfunction on the Philadelphia Eagles team, there have been more meetings than usual at the NovaCare these days. This week saw the first players-only meeting of the season as well as an unusually long meeting between Andy Reid and Mike Vick a few days following the quarterback’s comments acknowledging the possibility of being benched...

Philadelphia Eagles: Vick to keep starting job

“Michael Vick was our quarterback, is our quarterback, and will be our quarterback.” Those were the words of Eagles coach Andy Reid Thursday as he addressed the media for the first time this week. Vick, who has been severely criticized over the past few weeks, called a player-only meeting at the Nova-Care complex today. It is unknown what was said in this meeting, but I’m...

NFL Rumors: Will Monday Night Football Game Be Final Time Philadelphia Eagles Start Michael Vick?

Michael Vick will be the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles when they hit the road for a Monday Night Football game against the New Orleans Saints in a must win game for both teams. But it may turn out to be more than a must win game, as it may also be a must win performance from Vick if he plans to keep his starting quarterback job past this game. If the Eagles lose...

“The Old Michael Vick” Returning For Week 9?

Michael Vick told reporters that he plans on getting “back to being the old Michael Vick.“ “I’ve got to play the game and leave it all out on the field and play aggressive and shoot it and run the ball when I feel there is a need to,” said Vick, via Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly. “If I get a seam, get a crack, take it. Just do what I’ve been born to do, blessed to do...

Eagles stick with Vick as starter

Michael Vick remains the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback for at least this week. The Eagles announced Wednesday in a text message that Vick will be the starter Monday night against the Saints in New Orleans. The Eagles (3-4) have dropped three straight games, including a 30-17 loss Sunday to Atlanta, and there was speculation that coach Andy Reid might bench Vick in favor...

Michael Vick And The Future of The Dynamic Quarterback

The dynamic quarterback is still a new and rare breed in the NFL. Most players with that type of athleticism gravitate toward receiver or running back rather than under center, but any defensive coordinator can tell you how much havoc they create on a defensive game plan.It is undeniable, however, that a quarterback who relies as much on his legs as much as his arm has had limited...

Andy Reid confirms the Eagles are sticking with Michael Vick

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Eagles head coach Andy Reid has announced that he’s sticking with quarterback Michael Vick. The good news for Vick is that he’ll be going up against the Saints defense this week, which is one of the worst in the NFL. On the other hand, the bad news is that the Eagles’ defense has to try to stop Drew Brees.   var _CI = _CI ||...

Saints Nation: Scouting the Eagles

I have to admit that it gets a little old scouting other teams when no matter who the opponent is the result is getting gashed 500+ yards regardless. Maybe this game at home on Monday Night could be the exception? At least Michael Vick has been struggling mightily with turnovers... but the flipside is the Saints' defense is just what the doctor ordered for an overhyped quarterback...

Keep the faith with Vick for Week 9

Through eight weeks, our Position vs. Fantasy Defensive Points Allowed is an increasingly strong tool to help you find good matchups. As always, please remember that the players listed are mostly meant to be borderline guys, who need reasons for you to play or bench them. You won't see recommendations to start Calvin Johnson and Drew Brees, because you should always start Calvin...

A big congrats to JamesMorse for winning this week by picking correctly on the winner (Broncos, which makes me sick), and three of the four categories correctly. Eagles-Saints Preview

The Philadelphia Eagles have a quarterback and a coach both likely playing for their jobs. The New Orleans Saints are off to their worst start in the Drew Brees era following the best regular season in franchise history. Arguably the league's two most desperate teams entering Week 9, either the Eagles or the Saints will be in even worse shape after Monday night's game in...
