When I touched base with him last week, the executive producer who created ESPN's NFL Match-Up was busy perusing the coaches film from the 49ers-Falcons game. Here is a portion of my interview with the always-insightful Cosell . . . Has the play of the 49ers' defensive front seven impressed you? Cosell: "For the most part. I think Justin Smith is playing really well - probably better than any point that I can remember. (Patrick) Willis is playing well. That's not a profound statement. He's just a really good player. Yeah, I think their front seven is pretty good. At the end of the day, for a 3-4, they don't have a pure pass-rushing outside linebacker. I don't (Parys) Haralson is necessarily that guy.
