You passed out in the wild party, after Overbay's HR beat Tampa. You wake up in an empty clubhouse, the lockers and showers horribly smeared with chalk and pine tar.  Outside, on the field, a roving horde of Yankees seems to be feeding on something. You climb the dugout steps for a better look. My God, it's the carcass of Joe Girardi! One of them sees you. It's Vernon Wells. You know it's him, because when he swings his bat, driving Brennan Boesch's head from its shoulders, he hits a grounder to shortstop. OMG! Can it be? Yes... there's Ichiro - or what's left. What happened to his batting average? It's so withered, down to skin and bones. Can it really be him? He hits a pop-up. Yep, it's him all right.  It's been five days since the miracle in Tampa. Just five. But it feels like another Hangover sequel, this time, with blood. The first third of our season is over, and it has been a painful microcosm of 2012: Adversity, success, collapse... so...

Curtis Granderson gives back to his alma mater, donates $5M for new stadium

Granderson is all smiles after his donationCredit: Roberta Dupuis-Devlin/UIC Photo As if Curtis Granderson needed anything more on his resume of being known as one of the “good guys” of baseball, he padded it anyway.  Probably doesn’t even care if he gets publicity.  The New York Yankees outfielder donated $5M to the University of Illinois – Chicago to upgrade their stadium...

New York Yankees starting corner infielders, Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis are both due to come off the Disabled list on Friday for the series opener against the Red Sox.The timing is a best case scenario since both can bat right-handed and Boston will be throwing back-to-back lefties against New York Yankees suddenly anemic lineup. For New York, it will have to approach roster...

Yankees' Andy Pettitte to return next week

Brian Cashman told Meredith Marakovits of YES that the plan is for left-handed starting pitcher Andy Pettitte to be activated from the disabled list to make his return sometime early next week during the team's series against the Cleveland Indians. Cashman told me the plan is to have Pettitte return during the CLE series (as long as there are no setbacks) #yankees — Meredith...

Sabathia Bounces Back; Pitches Well

CC Sabathia has been happy with the way he’s been pitching lately. His fastball command has been an issue over his last few starts and coming in, the big Yankee southpaw hadn’t won a game in over a month (April 27th vs Toronto). Friday night against the Red Sox, Sabathia delivered and ace like performance, allowing only one runs on six hits, while walking none and tying a season...

Twins rumors: Not interested in Yankees' Chien-Ming Wang

New York Yankees right-hander Chien-Ming Wang was able to opt out of his minor league contract with the team yesterday. However, he elected not to do so, as he’s reportedly only interested in severing ties with the Yankees if he can find a starting role elsewhere. There are six teams that have been eyeing Wang, but the Minnesota Twins are not one of them, according to Darren...

Four Real? Red Sox vs Yankees 5-31-13

Pete Lepak RedSoxLife Staff Writer Game 56: Yankees take it, 4-1 Well, it wasn't a game of many highlights, but singles and walks gave the Yankees a 4-1 victory. In a rematch from Opening Day, C.C. Sabathia beat Jon Lester by simply pitching better, and it was simple; Lester missed his spots and C.C. didn't. Sabathia went over seven innings and struck out ten. Hopefully...

Injuries Taking Center Stage But Trending in Opposite Directions for Red Sox, Yankees (Video)

The Red Sox and Yankees are both dealing with injury-related storylines as they meet in the Bronx this weekend, but New York is probably a little more optimistic about its situation than Boston will be. With Jacoby Ellsbury scratched for the Sox on the same night that Kevin Youkilis and Mark Teixeira return for the Bronx Bombers, it’s hard not to think the Yankees might be better...

The Mets clinched the 2013 Subway Series with a 9-4 thumping of the Yankees. Starter David Phelps only managed one more out than Mariano Rivera had in Tuesday night's loss.
