It’s hard to separate Florida Gators football success and the legendary Steve Spurrier. Spurrier won a Heisman Trophy as a quarterback for the Gators, and returned as head coach to guide the school to its first national championship. Florida has won 19 bowl games in its rich history, and Spurrier has been associated with many of the Gators’ best moments. It took a while for Florida to escape from the shadow of the Gator Bowl (where it played 6 of its first 10 bowls), but once it finally did, it has rarely looked back, winning national titles and producing Heisman-winning playmakers. Coach Urban Meyer took Spurrier’s mantle and brought the school to even higher levels of success.
