Floyd Mayweather has been behind bars since he surrendered to authorities on June 1 after pleading guilty in December to misdemeanor domestic violence charges. The 35-year-old boxing champion is reportedly due to be released from the Clark County Detention Center on Friday after being given time off for good behavior.

The current WBC welterweight champion was scheduled to spend 90 days in jail, thanks to a September 2010 fight with his then-girlfriend Josie Harris while two of their children looked on. Mayweather faced up to 34 years in prison before a plea deal was reached.

“Money May” will have spent more than two months in jail if he is released on Friday.

Several weeks ago Mayweather’s attorneys filed a motion requesting that he be allowed to serve out the remainder of his jail sentence at home. The request came just 12 days into his time in prison.

Richard Wright, Mayweather’s attorney, claimed it was “inhumane” for his client to be housed with felons since he was only convicted of a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. Because of his celebrity Mayweather has also been held in lockdown 23 hours a day.

Mayweather’s team has also claimed that his time behind bars will damage his future as a boxer because that profession is dependent on a healthy diet and continued exercise. The court rejected that motion because it was ridiculous. Mayweather should have thought about that before getting involved in yet another domestic violence incident.

This was Mayweather’s third arrest on a domestic violence charge, so maybe his time in jail will finally make him realize he needs to change.
