When it rains, it pours. Another scheduled main event out gets scrapped with the news today that UFC heavyweight Frank Mir has suffered a knee injury. Mir was scheduled to take on Daniel Cormier in a Strikeforce event on November 3rd. Cormier will remain on the fight card. The search for a replacement for Mir is ongoing and is expected to be announced shortly.
Mir (16-6) would have been the first UFC fighter to cross-over to compete in Strikeforce. A former UFC heavyweight champion, Mir is coming off a failed attempt to regain the title when he fell to Junior dos Santos as UFC 146.
The undefeated Cormier (10-0) captured the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament. He entered the tournament as a replacement for Alistair Overeem then proceeded to defeat Antonio Silva and Josh Barnett.
The November 3rd event takes place from the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also scheduled on the card is a middleweight title fight between champion Luke Rockhold anc challenger Lorenz Larkin. In addition, Sara McMann and Liz Carmouche will square off in a featured women’s bout.
