Found May 03, 2013 on Football Extra Points:
Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson’s benching of starting second basemen Danny Espinosa on May1 against the Braves indicated that the Nationals’ middle infield is still not completely set. The benching also slid power-hitting shortstop Ian Desmond into the cleanup spot in the line-up, and responded by driving in the only two runs for the Nationals in a 2-0 win over the Atlanta Braves. This will likely leave Nationals management with a decision as to whether the long-term choice at second base is Espinosa or utility man Steve Lombardozzi. Ian Desmond developed into an all-star in 2012 with 25 home runs and a solid batting average of .292. He has also shown that he can bat anywhere in the line-up and still be productive, whether it’s the lead off spot or farther down in the order. It was expected by the fans and media that Espinosa would likely make this same transition this year in what would also be his third year with the big club. So far his production has been simila...

Dan Haren: "I'm not gonna care about velocity anymore. I'm sick of that."

(Dan Haren's hair was trying to be like Bryce Harper's in his postgame interview Thursday night. Screencap via MASN/TV) Nationals 3, Braves 1: Split! Another solid start from Dan Haren; and suddenly the guy Mike Rizzo thought he was getting has arrived. Dan's problem? Trying to throw gas like Strasburg, Gio, and J-Zimm: "That was the problem. I was...

Video: Bryce Harper, Davey Johnson, discuss Harper's injury scare

So Bryce Harper left last night's game in the sixth inning, causing quite a scare. In the video above, Harper and Davey Johnson discuss the injury. Good news: it's not his oblique. Bad news: it's a bad bruise. Bad enough to sit him in tonight's series finale? (Screencap via MASN/MLB.com) Befriend Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow on Twitter.

So Ryan Zimmerman's hammy is better. But how's his throwing?

(Photo of Ryan Zimmerman signing for P-Nats fans during his rehab start on Wednesday by @JonDMV) Via the Washington Post, Ryan Zimmerman's hammy is all better, he'll return from the DL on Friday in Pittsburgh. But more importantly, how's his throwing? More from the Post after Zim's rehab start for the P-Nats yesterday: Zimmerman appeared uncomfortable throwing...

Nationals activate Ryan Zimmerman

The Washington Nationals activated third baseman Ryan Zimmerman from the 15-day disabled list on Friday and he was in the starting lineup in the weekend series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rookie third baseman Anthon Rendon was optioned to Double-A Harrisburg of the Eastern League. Zimmerman had been on the disabled list since April 18 with a strained left hamstring and...

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg to start Saturday

Washington Nationals right-handed starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg experienced no pain during his bullpen session yesterday, according to Amanda Comak of The Washington Times. Since he was able to log the session without discomfort, Strasburg remains on track to make his next regularly scheduled start Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Davey said Stephen Strasburg'...

Haren Impressive As Nats Split Four Game Series With Braves

The Nationals finally saw exactly what they hoped to see from Dan Haren when he signed the one-year/$13 million deal this past offseason. His outing against Atlanta, in what he admitted after the game felt like a must-win contest, was absolutely stellar. The Nats beat the Braves 3-1 as they moved back above the .500 mark and within 2.5 games of the division-leading Braves, which...

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman Return From DL Stint

Good news came Friday for the Washington Nationals, as they welcomed the return of third baseman Ryan Zimmerman to the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates after his recent stint on the disabled list due to a hamstring injury. However, joy quickly turned to disappointment, as Zimmerman marked his return with a 0-4, 4 strikeout 'Golden Sombrero' performance, three...

Manny Machado Isn’t Bad for 20 Years Old Either

Contrary to popular belief there are two 20 year old studs playing in the DMV. I will start this article off by saying this is not a compare and contrast between Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. Harper is a stone cold stud and what he is doing to live up to expectations none of us know anything about is pretty incredible. Harper is the best player on his team at 20 years old. That...

Here Is The Coolest Bryce Harper GIF You’ll See Today

That would be Bryce Harper vs. Bob Gibson, as imagined by For The Win. Harper loses the battle, but FTW thinks he’d win the war. Click through for the full commentary, and check out Yu Darvish vs. Babe Ruth and Albert Pujols vs. Nolan Ryan too. I love the Internet so much.

Anthony Rendon's nickname is "Mark Sanchez"

What is it with Nats rookies and Jets quarterbacks, anyway? Last year, Bryce Harper said in an interview that he wanted to be like Joe Namath, and ended up with a "Joe Namath 12" nameplate above his locker in Spring Training. But now there's Anthony Rendon's nickname. Apparently Nats veterans have taken to calling Rendon "Mark Sanchez" because...

Mudcats bats go silent, Potomac takes series with 5-1 win

POTOMAC- The Carolina Mudcats fell behind early and did not get going offensively until it was too late to fall to the Potomac Nationals 5-1 on Thursday night.  The loss drops the Mudcats record to 11-16 after the Nationals took three out of four games. Mudcats starting pitcher Cody Anderson struggled early but settled down to throw six innings, giving up 11 hits, five runs, all...

Clint Hurdle is drunk

A 5-4 loss to the Washington Nationals. I can normally deal with that. Stephen Strasburg pitched for the Nats. They are supposed to be one of the best teams in the NL. The bullpen was horribly mismanaged in the loss but that is to be expected. Clint Hurdle has done this before. Even then, I…

Video: Hurdle Talks Locke, Bullpen; Strasburg More Efficient

Three videos today from the after the Nationals’ 5-4 win against the Pirates at PNC Park. Clint Hurdle’s interview is broken up into two parts and I was even able to snag some of Stephen Strasburg’s clubhouse interview. I’ll have a recap of today’s game up this evening but for now enjoy the videos.

Zimmermann, Desmond lead Nationals past Braves 2-0

Jordan Zimmermann turned in another dominant performance with two-hit ball over eight innings, Ian Desmond hit a two-run homer in the fourth and the Washington Nationals finally beat the Atlanta Braves, 2-0 Wednesday night. The Braves had won five in a row this season over their NL East rival, and nine straight dating to last season. Zimmermann (5-1) made sure that streak ended...

Video: Jordan Zimmermann's latest gem

Nationals 2, Braves 0: Ho hum, just another gem by Jordan Zimmermann last night (8.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 8 K, 107 pitches, 72 strikes). ...and just enough offense courtesy of first-time cleanup hitter Ian Desmond (video of Desmond's 2-run shot here).
