The Bucs go for two in a row tonight and a series win against the defending champion Giants. Last night was a brilliant start to this homestand against west coast squads, and the Bucs now have a chance to do some damage this week against some struggling teams.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy has been suspended one game after last night’s beanball incident. He will serve it tonight.
Pitcher George Kontos was suspended three games, but he was sent down to the minors today.
Marco Scutaro, who was hit by a Tony Watson pitch last night, is out tonight and could miss significant time for the Giants.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have put left-hander Wandy Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list because of tightness in his forearm, clearing the way prized pitcher Gerrit Cole to make his major league debut.

Giants relief pitcher George Kontos got a double dose of bad news on Wednesday, which also happened to be his birthday.
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole, the #1 overall pick from the 2011 draft, made his MLB debut on Tuesday night against the San Francisco Giants. He stepped up for his first career at bat with the bases loaded and managed to knock in two runs off a single. After reaching base, he threw up a Zoltan as his family went nuts. Cole would go on to get the win with 6 1/3 innings...
Let's be straight about this: Charlie Morton is probably my favorite Pirate. The guy came through the minors with all of the talent in the world, but couldn't get it right in the big leagues. He completely scrapped his approach and rebuilt himself from the ground up, turning in one of the more pleasantly surprising Pirate performances in recent memory in 2011. It seemed like...
Pittsburgh Pirates hurler Gerrit Cole struck out the first batter he faced in the majors and then delivered with the stick. Cole came up with the bases juiced and stroked a single to right centre field plating two Pirates in his first major league at bat. The “Cole Train” is gaining steam in Pittsburgh.

A look at how the current top 20 prospects did today. Note that this list doesn’t include players currently in the majors. If a player is in the majors, he will be removed, everyone below him will be shifted up a spot, and a new player will be added to the bottom of the list. Rankings are from the pre-season rankings, and links to each prospect writeup can be...
The San Francisco Giants have called up catcher Hector Sanchez and right-handed reliever Jake Dunning.
To make room for the newcomers, San Francisco sent first baseman Brett Pill to Triple-A Fresno and designated reliever Ramon Ramirez for assignment.
Sanchez began the season with the Giants before being sent down. He hit .320 in 19 games with Fresno and gives the Giants added...
As expected, Pablo Sandoval has been sent to the 15-day DL.
Sandoval missed the Giants’ three-game set against the Cardinals last week with a left foot strain but returned to the lineup against the Blue Jays, only to aggravate the injury Saturday while playing the Diamondbacks.
The Giants finally decided this was an injury that needed rest. They’ve recalled Nick Noonan from Triple...
What is there to talk about today? Countless political scandals? No…. Two accidents shutting down the northbound and southbound sides of Interstate 81 last night? Nah that’s not it either. Oh right, today is the debut of uber-prospect Gerrit Cole! A lot of people want him up, a lot think it’s too early, he’s here,…
The Pirates couldn’t have asked for a better night on Tuesday, as Gerrit Cole‘s debut went smoothly, PNC Park was electric, and the offense came alive for a big win.
The buzz at PNC Park was evident right away. Fans squeezed and packed themselves all around the bullpen area to see Cole warm up. He got a big cheer when the lineup was announced, then again when he walked in from...
