NEWS AND NOTES
  • The Yankees have won 9 of their last 10, and are just one game behind the Red Sox for first in the division.
  • The Yanks placed Chien-Ming Wang on the DL. They've recalled Jonthan Albaladejo from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Joba Chamberlain has made nine appearances against the Blue Jays in his career, two of which were starts. In those games he's 1-1, with a 1.83 ERA. In 19.2 innings he's allowed four ER on 14 hits, walked 10 and struck out 29.
  • Brett Cecil has never faced the Yankees. Today will be just his seventh start in the majors and eighth appearance.
  • Derek Jeter extended his hitting streak to ten games yesterday.
  • Toronto third baseman Scott Rolen extended his streak to 21 games, the longest of his career.
  • Robinson Cano is 0 for his last 20 with RISP.
According to George A. King III, the Yankees have an interest in lefty reliever John Grabow. Jon Paul Morosi reports that the bombers are also interested in Chad Qualls.

Throughout Grabow's entire career lefties (.269) have hit better against him than righties (.257). Plus, he's from the NL.

Qualls had a very good year last season but has struggled a bit this year, posting a 4.22 ERA in the NL West. He started off pretty well, but had gotten worse and worse as the season has gone on. The teams stuggles may be the problem.

I rather them wait off and pursue Huston Street when he becomes available again.
