San Francisco Giants
The Cincinnati offense once again over-powered the Giants starting pitcher as San Francisco fell to the Reds in Game 1 of the doubleheader 9-2.
It was déjà-vu for the Giants as Eric Surkamp, just one night after Tim Lincecum gave up eight runs in 3.2 innings, failed to make it out of the third inning. The Reds pounded Surkamp early and often, as they tagged him for nine hits, seven runs, and two home runs in 2.2 innings.
The first inning started out promisingly. Surkamp pitched a 1-2-3 top of the first, and the San Francisco offense got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Andres Torres walked to lead off the game, advanced to third on a single by Marco Scutaro, and came in to score on a Pablo Sandoval sacrifice fly to give the Giants an early 1-0 lead.
But the wheels quickly fell off in the second. With one out, Jay Bruce doubled and Todd Frazier singled. Zack Cozart collected his first RBI of the day with a single to bring home Bruce, and Devin Mesoraco broke the game wide-op...

Brian Wilson is set to start doing the rounds for interested major league teams. The San Francisco Giants have recently seen a rash of injuries in the bullpen and have not seen the dominance we have grown to love and admire by the entire staff. Part of that staple used to be Wilson aka ‘The Beard.’
The Giants have missed his presence just as much as his arm during this tough...
Free agent relief pitcher Brian Wilson threw for San Francisco Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti Monday, while Giants bullpen catcher Billy Hayes caught for Wilson, reports Andrew Baggerly of CSNBayArea.com. Wilson hasn’t played in a regular season game in over a year. He
If you ask most Yankee fans about Chad Gaudin, who now pitches for the San Francisco Giants, most would shiver. And yet, he was not that particularly bad for the Yankees. And the Yankees were just one of the teams for which Chad Gaudin has pitched. He has long been one of those fringe Major League players that you do not think much about unless he is pitching for your team. But...
Mike Leake improved his season record to a team-best 10-4 on Wednesday as the Reds turned away the Giants, 8-3, at AT&T Park. However, the manner in which Leake emerged victorious is somewhat unique.
Leake won the game in spite of allowing a whopping 12 hits in six innings of work. The 25-year-old became the first pitcher since Marlins right-hander Ricky Nolasco in...
Lefty Reds setup man Sean Marshall was expected to resume a throwing session but all those plans have been nixed.
The #Reds have optioned Neftali Soto and moved Sean Marshall to the 60-day DL after suffering a setback, per @johnfayman.

Marshall, who has been on the DL since May 24th with a sprained left shoulder, experienced...
The Reds split a doubleheader with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.
But when you lose Game 2 in a long frustrating fashion, the split doesn't feel so even.
"Long day," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "Real long day."
The Reds beat the San Francisco Giants 9-3 in Game 1 and fell 5-3 in Game 2 before a crowd of 42,310 at AT&T Park.
In Game 2...
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Devin Mesoraco had a three-run homer among his three hits for his second longball in as many games, Joey Votto and Zack Cozart also connected, and the Cincinnati Reds pounded the San Francisco Giants for the second straight game with a 9-3 win Tuesday in the opener of a traditional doubleheader.
Cozart finished 4 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs to back Tony...
Wikipedia Commons Brian Wilson helped the San Francisco Giants beat the Phillies in the 2010 NLCS en route to a World Series Championship. But Wilson has fallen since then, succumbing to a second Tommy John surgery in April 2012. Wilson is now on the comeback trail and looking for a...

I ought to be talking about how Ryan Braun will sit out the rest of the season. Heck, I haven’t even mentioned the thing about Brandon Phillips complaining that the team misled him about his last contract yet. But I am just too eager to see what last night’s line-score will look like in this...
Ryan Ludwick was sent out on rehab assignment with the class A Dayton Dragons yesterday while they played the Lansing Lugnuts. Ludwick was the DH and had three plate appearances. He popped out, walked, and singled. Nice that he’s trying out all the possibilities. Perhaps tonight he could try out that home run muscle.
Ludwick has been out of the major league line-up...
The reports are in, and Brian Wilson looks good to go.
The former Giants closer threw a mound session Monday at the University of San Francisco. Coincidentally, a couple Giants coaches were in attendance, but it was what they reported back about the state of Wilson’s rehab that was more interesting than who his potential suitors may be.
Wilson was said to look “game ready”...
About two weeks ago, when the Kansas City Royals finally bid adieu to struggling right fielder and former Atlanta Braves wunderkind Jeff Francoeur, I semi-sarcastically tweeted that it was only a matter of time before the Giants signed him to play left field. It seemed like such a Brian Sabean signing after all. Team struggling and in danger of falling into an insurmountable hole...
Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run double to help Bruce Bochy earn his 1,500th win as a manager, and the San Francisco Giants split a straight doubleheader with the Cincinnati Reds with a 5-3 victory in the nightcap Tuesday.
Hunter Pence hit an RBI single, Gregor Blanco had a sacrifice fly, and Brandon Belt added an RBI groundout in San Francisco's first win in six tries against the...
Billy Hamilton doubled twice and drove in three runs but it wasn't enough as the Louisville Bats lost Tuesday night.
With sixteen full weeks of the 2013 season in the books, today RotoBaller casts a critical eye on three players who are on the rise heading into Week 17: 1) Tim Lincecum (SP, SF): The resurgence of Timmy Lincecum is upon us. Fresh off a 148 pitch no-hitter, Lincecum has rebounded to look more and [...]
