The Cincinnati offense once again over-powered the Giants starting pitcher as San Francisco fell to the Reds in Game 1 of the doubleheader 9-2.
It was déjà-vu for the Giants as Eric Surkamp, just one night after Tim Lincecum gave up eight runs in 3.2 innings, failed to make it out of the third inning. The Reds pounded Surkamp early and often, as they tagged him for nine hits, seven runs, and two home runs in 2.2 innings.
The first inning started out promisingly. Surkamp pitched a 1-2-3 top of the first, and the San Francisco offense got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Andres Torres walked to lead off the game, advanced to third on a single by Marco Scutaro, and came in to score on a Pablo Sandoval sacrifice fly to give the Giants an early 1-0 lead.
But the wheels quickly fell off in the second. With one out, Jay Bruce doubled and Todd Frazier singled. Zack Cozart collected his first RBI of the day with a single to bring home Bruce, and Devin Mesoraco broke the game wide-op...
