Commissioner Roger Goodell has ordered the owners of all 32 NFL teams to make sure their clubs are not offering bounties like the New Orleans Saints did from 2009-11. Goodell's memo instructs each team's principal owner and head coach to certify in writing by March 30 that no pay-for-performance system exists. Goodell says Wednesday that bounty programs ''are incompatible with our efforts to promote sportsmanship, fair play, and player safety.'' He suspended Saints head coach Sean Payton for the entire 2012 season and GM Mickey Loomis for the first eight regular-season games, while banning former New Orleans defensive coordinator Gregg Williams indefinitely.

Report: Williams lied to Goodell’s face – severe punishment expected

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not a happy camper these days. A report from Sports Illustrated’s Peter King on the magazines Facebook page has suggested that Goodell is extremely furious at the events that have taken place with the New Orleans Saints organization, and is will not show mercy with his discipline. “This is a seminal moment in the culture change we have to make...

Goodell’s reputation rides on his handling of the ‘Bounty Issue.’

Once again the spin machine located in the National Football League offices in New York City is hard at work. As former Saints’ and current Rams’ Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams goes before the ‘assistant principals’ today, many are expecting the League to make a huge example of the Saints, many players, and Williams for what is now being called “BountyGate.” How...

Bounty issue won't go away soon

It is nothing less than amazing for me to see the time, energy and rhetoric that is surrounding the allegations made against the New Orleans Saints with regards to the "bounty" system they employed. Much has and will be said about the severity of these allegations and what the ramifications will be, both with the Saints, Greg Williams and the league as a whole. Having...

Eli Manning rips the Saints for bounty program

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is clearly unhappy about what’s gone down in his home town of New Orleans with the bountygate scandal that’s rattled the Saints organization. “Obviously it is a big deal, what’s going on,’’ Eli Manning said last night before the premiere of the official championship video, “Super Bowl XLVI Champions: New York Giants,” at a...

LaDainian Tomlinson on bounties: ‘I don’t think you can discipline them too much’

It could be a while before we find out how Roger Goodell is going deal with the alleged bounty scandal that is ripping through the Saints organization and every other team that Gregg Williams has been a part of. One thing we can be certain of is that Goodell is going to take the matter more seriously than LaDainian Tomlinson does. L.T. believes placing bounties on opponents is simply...

Did Peyton Manning’s neck issues start with a Gregg Williams bounty back in 2006? (VIDEO)

Was this the moment that changed Manning's career forever? The two biggest stories in the NFL right now are Peyton Manning’s release from the Colts, and the bounty system run by Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams while with the Saints and Redskins before them.  And now it seems that those two stories might intersect in a most interesting way, as former colts head coach Tony...

Michael Turner’s Girlfriend Goes Elin Woods On His Baby Mama

Antonio Cromartie and Travis Henry better watch out. Michael Turner’s coming at them with a vengeance. Roger Goodell and Peter King can check their fake indignation. No bounties are involved unless one counts child support. Police were called to Turner’s house after his current girlfriend attacked his baby mama with a move that would have made Elin Woods proud. According to...

Saints Nation: Saints' Bounty-Gate Punishment Will be Harsh

It's amazing how much optimism can be found around Who Dat Nation even on the heels of such troubling news. I'm getting numerous responses that "this isn't that big of a deal", "the media is blowing this out of proportion", and "Gregg Williams will get stiff penalties but the others won't". I think it's incredibly naive to think that...

NFL thoughts: the bounty system is as old as the game

It's been a crazy week in the National Football League. The combine is over, draft talk is heating up, franchise tags have been handed out, teams have started re-signing their own players, and some cuts have gone down. A crazy week... and then the pay for pain story broke. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, then of the New Orleans Saints, was caught with an elaborate bounty...
