This article is the work of guest blogger Felipe Diaz, a fine and enthusiastic young man from the great state of Wisconsin who is currently a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee studying Film Production and Marketing. Isaac Brumaghim battled with a shark and lived to talk about it. Just off the coast of Wainae, Hawaii the fisherman had snagged a large kawakawa tuna and was preparing to reel the fish in when a massive tiger shark jumped out of the water and tried to rip the tuna off his line. Isaac wouldn’t let the fish go without a fight, and he bravely tried to yank his fish away from the shark for a split second. The shark prevailed, snapping the fishing line, and then bumping Isaac’s 16-foot canoe before diving underwater with his stolen lunch. After the encounter Isaac would actually stay out on the water and catch a few more fish, including an impressive mahi-mahi. Brumaghim was fishing that day as part of an 8-month tournament with the Aquahunters—he figures to be out on the water many more times in the near future. Here’s hoping his upcoming fishing trips won’t be so perilous.
