"Shock the World," its a term all too often used in the sporting world, a world rife with bad puns and hyperbole galore. However, what the Indiana Hoosiers baseball team did this weekend deserves that statement as they shocked the college baseball world, sweeping the 7th seeded Florida State Seminoles in the Super Regionals and advancing to the College World Series.

In so doing, the Hoosiers ended a drought of 29 years for the Big Ten. To give you an idea of how crazy long that is the last team to make it from the Big Ten was the 1984 Michigan Wolverines who featured a little player by the name of Barry Larkin. He's since went on to a stellar career in Major League Baseball, been retired for a decade, and has had a son play college basketball and is now about to ply his trade in the NBA.

Point being, the Big Ten as a baseball conference has been less than stellar since it's heydays of the 1970's and 80's and the entire conference should be overjoyed at what the Hoosiers have accomplished this season. Oh, and to top it all off, it's the Hoosiers' first ever appearance in the College World Series.

Get ready Omaha, the Hoosier contingent is coming to celebrate. Of course odds are stacked against the Hoosiers, especially when you look at history of the Big Ten in this tournament. A Big Ten team hasn't won a National Championship in baseball since 1966 (Ohio State) and as a group have made less appearances (27, with current conference members) than years since their last appearance in the College World Series.

So, Hoosier nation, the Big Ten fanbase is behind you in Omaha. If you haven't been to the College World Series as a fan, it's a highly entertaining affair both in and out of the ballpark, so why not witness some history, huh?

The good news is that the next time for a Big Ten team to make the College World Series shouldn't be as long of a wait, Big Ten baseball is on the rise and having Nebraska in the fold has only helped strengthen this once laughable conference.

Indiana will take on the winner of Vanderbilt vs. Louisville in the 1st round of the College World Series.
