Found November 07, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
According to Jon Heyman, the Cleveland Indians are not opposed to trading some of their best players such as Asdrubal Cabrera, Justin Masterson and Chris Perez.  But the one player on the Indians that the Mets should have on their radar is outfielder Shin-Soo Choo. The Mets are going into the 2013 season with the always hustling but never producing Jason Bay in left, your guess is as good as mine in center, and some combination of Lucas Duda, Mike Baxter, Scott Hairston (if he’s re-signed) and the right field ball boy in right.  Needless to say, the Mets have a big mess in the outfield.  However, some of that mess could be cleaned up if Sandy Alderson can find the right combination of players to offer Indians general manager Chris Antonetti for Shin-Soo Choo. The 30-year-old Choo will be a free agent following the 2013 season, but he’s still worth the risk.  Just look at his numbers over the last three full seasons he’s played (injuries limited Choo to 85 games in 2011): 2009: .300...

Indians trades need to look like more than cost cutting

Obviously this entire conversation is based upon the assumption that the Indians will make a trade or two this off-season. It also assumes that at least one of those players traded will be Shin-Soo Choo, Asdrubal Cabrera or Chris Perez. If that assumption seems faulty, then read no further. I’ll wait… … Assuming you’re still reading, I think it could end up being a little...

MLB Rumors: Indians could be “center of trade activity” at GM meetings

With a handful of quality position players and a starting rotation in shambles, the Cleveland Indians could find themselves at the center of trade talks during the off-season general manager meetings. CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports that the Indians, represented by Chris Antonetti, have already begun receiving phone calls on four key players: Justin Masterson, Shin-Soo Choo, Asdrubal...

Face Transplants, Rebuilds, and the Case for Trading Asdrubal Cabrera

I realized something over the weekend that was mildly surprising. The Indians were TERRIBLE last season.  No, that’s not the thing I realized; but let me finish. They had the worst run differential in the league, despite suffering no major injuries.  Their starting rotation was historically bad.  Their offense was mediocre at best.  Rather than taking a step forward from 2011—a...

Report: Johnny Damon to Play for Thailand As Country Attempts to Qualify for World Baseball Classic

Johnny Damon has bounced around in recent years, but he is really venturing out to join his next team. Damon will play for Thailand as the country attempts to qualify for the World Baseball Classic, Thai Amateur Baseball Association deputy secretary general Chaiyawat Chaiwannajinda told The Nation. Damon, whose mother is from Thailand, last played for the Cleveland Indians, batting...

Johnny Damon’s Strange World Baseball Classic Decision Actually Quite Fitting for Him (Video)

Johnny Damon is heading to the World Baseball Classic, but not as a member of the United States. Instead, he’ll be playing for Thailand as the small Asian country looks to qualify for the 2013 event. While on the surface it might appear that Damon is stretching the rules a bit to find a way to keep playing, a closer look at things reveals that, in fact, Thailand is a pretty fitting...

Sources: Red Sox interested in Masterson, Choo

The Boston Red Sox have expressed interest in acquiring right-handed starter Justin Masterson and outfielder Shin-Soo Choo from the Cleveland Indians, major-league sources said. It’s not clear how advanced the talks are, but the fit is obvious: The Red Sox have the ability to take on payroll after unloading roughly $250 million in contracts three months ago, and the Indians are...

Report: Red Sox ‘Checked in’ on Free-Agent Outfielder Grady Sizemore

Grady Sizemore, a player once regarded as an up-and-coming, five-tool superstar, is reportedly eyeing a return to the diamond in 2013, and the Red Sox are apparently doing their homework. The Red Sox have “checked in” on Sizemore, according to the Boston Herald’s Michael Silverman. Now, teams tend to do a lot of “checking in” this time of year, but it’s an interesting...

Morosi: Red Sox and Indians could make Trade this Offseason

On Tuesday afternoon, FOXSports.com baseball writer Jon Morosi wrote in his GM Meetings preview that the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians could strike a deal sometime this offseason since the two teams know each other’s system very well. Later this week, we could know more on whether a trade may happen once the GM [...]

Report: Red Sox Interested in Possibly Acquiring Justin Masterson, Shin-Soo Choo

There are rumblings of a potential trade between the Red Sox and Indians. FOXSports’ Jon Paul Morosi reports the Red Sox have shown interest in acquiring starter Justin Masterson –– who started his career in Boston’s farm system –– and outfielder Shin-Soo Choo from the Indians. Red Sox manager John Farrell is already familiar with Masterson’s work. As a pitching coach...

FOX: Red Sox and Indians could match up in trades

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Red Sox have inquired on a couple of Cleveland's finest: Justin Masterson and Shin-Soo Choo. As Morosi states, there's a lot of logic in Boston and Cleveland matching up on trades. The Sox finally have a relatively well-stocked farm system, and the Indians probably aren't making a serious run at contending for the next year or...
